Cavaliers Pursuing Warrick

Jul 31, 2009 4:06 AM

On Twitter, Marc Stein writes about the Cavs' pursuit of the unrestricted free-agent Hakim Warrick.  The Bucks are also interested and may devote their resources to signing Warrick rather than matching any offer sheet Ramon Sessions signs with the Knicks.

Stein implies that this free-agent jockeying is prelude to the much-anticipated summer of 2010.

The Bucks have the ability to outbid Cleveland for Warrick if they wish, since the Bucks still have most of their mid-level exception while the Cavs have already signed Anthony Parker and Jamario Moon using almost all of their MLE.

But if the Cavs are able to lure Warrick to Cleveland, the Bucks may consider matching the Knicks' offer sheet, preventing Sessions from landing in New York.

Nash Reflects, Rips Gasol Trade

Jul 29, 2009 3:48 PM

Having just signed a contract extension with the Suns, Steve Nash took just a few seconds to look back on the last few years.

"You know what? I enjoy life too much to look back a lot," Nash told the Arizona Republic of his five years with the Suns. "I have too much to look forward to each day, too much left to accomplish and work for. Yeah, it's a shame and it hurts, if I take a minute to stop and think about it. But I don't really have any regrets, and I look forward to continuing to improve and being part of a great environment and a great team."

As positive and forgiving as Nash sounded, he proved that he could be bitter too.

"No one gave us Pau Gasol for nothing," he added.

Nash was referring to a February 2008 trade between the Grizzlies and Lakers. Los Angeles acquired Gasol and a 2010 second round pick from Memphis for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Aaron McKie, the rights to Marc Gasol and two future draft picks.

Heisley: Iverson To Memphis Not Likely

Jul 26, 2009 9:22 AM

Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley has cleared up speculation that their decision not to bring Hakim Warrick back means they are close to signing Allen Iverson.

"Absolutely not," Heisley said Saturday. "Iverson wasn't even part of the conversation."

Memphis renounced their $3 million qualifying offer to Warrick, clearing up additional cap space late last week.

"I think we decided we wanted some flexibility," Heisley said. "But the idea that there is a target is completely false. As for Iverson, I think he's trying to get with a team like L.A. (Clippers) or Miami or someone like that.

"Frankly, I've tried to tell everybody that I don't think we're at the top of Iverson's list, but no one wants to listen. All it is, we're basically opening up cap room for us."

Grizzlies Withdraw Warrick Offer, Iverson Closer?

Jul 25, 2009 9:38 AM

The Grizzlies have rescinded their $3 million qualifying offer to Hakim Warrick, giving them more flexibility on the free-agent market.

Warrick shared time at power forward with Darrell Arthur last season, but Memphis acquired Zach Randolph this summer.

For the time being, Warrick will remain on the Grizzlies' cap at $6.2 million - 300 percent of his salary in 2008-09.

However, Memphis could move about $9 million below the cap if they fully renounce their rights to Warrick or move him in a sign-and-trade.

The move could pave the way for the Grizzlies to add Allen Iverson.

"I'm not a guy who says things automatically cannot happen, because funny things can start to happen in free agency. We haven't closed the door on anybody. It would be premature to do that," general manager Chris Wallace told ESPN.com. "We like Hakim and felt he contributed, but we wanted a little more flexibility going forward in free agency."
