Otto Porter Sidelined With Hip Flexor Injury

Sep 28, 2013 7:14 PM

Otto Porter recently suffered a right hip flexor during a pickup game and was sidelined for the Washington Wizards' first day of practice on Saturday.

Porter added the injury is not major and that he is day-to-day.

“No moving. Keep that to a minimum,” Porter said. “It occurred recently, you know, just playing. Something just twist[ed]. But nothing major, though. I’m going to take it day by day, see how it feels.”

Bradley Beal advised Porter that he should not rush back from the injury.

“He can’t really do anything cause he’s injured and we have to accept that. He has to accept it and not try it rush back,” Beal said. “That’s the last thing he should want to do, just come back when he’s ready cause he’s going to have plenty of time."

Trevor Booker Ensuring Pending Free Agency Won't Hurt Him On Court

Sep 25, 2013 2:24 PM

Trevor Booker is looking to emerge in the Washington Wizards' frontcourt this season and vows his free agency status next summer will not negatively impact him on the court.

“Just try to block it out and play my game,” Booker said. “Just go out there and do what they want me to do. My jumper is looking a lot better. My confidence is high right now.”

Booker dealt with injuries a season ago and became frustrated, complained about minutes and was the subject of trade rumors.

“I was injured for half of the year and when I came back, I wasn’t in the best shape. So I really couldn’t play like myself,” Booker said. “This year, I feel a lot better. I’m in good shape right now, looking to get in great shape and play my game.”

D'or Fischer Accepts Invitation To Wizards' Training Camp

Sep 24, 2013 1:48 PM

After losing two frontcourt players to injury last week, the Washington Wizards have reached a deal to bring D’or Fischer into training camp, a league source told RealGM.

Fischer, the big man out of West Virginia University, was on the New Orleans Pelicans’ roster in the July summer league.

A shot-blocker at 6-foot-10, Fischer could have a realistic chance to make the Wizards’ regular season roster, which has lost Emeka Okafor (neck) indefinitely and Chris Singleton (foot) for up to 10 weeks.

Fischer, 31, went unselected in the 2005 NBA draft with averages of 9.25 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.9 blocks at West Virginia. He participated in training camp and preseason with the Charlotte Bobcats for the 2005-06 season.

Xavier Silas Accepts Training Camp Deal With Wizards

Sep 23, 2013 7:17 PM

Free agent guard Xavier Silas is accepting a training camp deal with the Washington Wizards, a league source told RealGM.

Silas had worked out for the Utah Jazz recently, but he took the Wizards' invitation to camp, where he'll battle Josh Childress -- among others -- for a spot on Washington's regular season roster.

Silas, 25, went undrafted in 2011, earning a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers in that offseason. He played 38 minutes and scored 11 points over two games in the 2011-12 season.

Silas participated in the Las Vegas summer league in July with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Bradley Beal Enters 2nd Season With 'Sky High Confidence'

Sep 20, 2013 12:21 PM

Bradley Beal is entering his second NBA season healthy and with a lot of confidence.

“Everything has been good. My game has been improving. [I'm] putting the ball on the floor a lot more and my confidence is still sky high,” Beal said. “I’m ready for this year and I couldn’t be more excited with the team that we have. And hopefully, starting next week, we’ll have a good start chemistry wise and we’ll go from there.”

Beal missed 26 games as a rookie with lower leg injuries and a wrist injury.

Beal and John Wall are hoping to play a full season together and reach the playoffs.

Beal was recently listed as one of the top-five candidates to have a breakout season.

“It could be the year,” said Beal. “I don’t pay attention to that stuff, but individually, that’s definitely my goal to be able to step up and be able to do well on both ends of the floor. My game has improved a lot and hopefully, I’ll be able to showcase that.”

Emeka Okafor Out Indefinitely With Herniated Disk In Neck

Sep 18, 2013 2:35 PM

Emeka Okafor will be out indefinitely after being diagnosed with a herniated C4 cervical disc.

“I have worked hard over the summer and was looking forward to the start of training camp next week, so this is a disappointing and frustrating situation for me,” Okafor said in a statement. “But I have confidence that my teammates and coaches will be able to continue to take steps towards our goal of making the playoffs and that I will be able to do my part to help them once I return.”

After consulting with several specialists and the team doctors, Okafor will begin rehabilitation to reduce the inflammation and correct the injury. The herniated disc was originally revealed through an MRI after Okafor experienced discomfort in his neck.

“Emeka’s professionalism and dedication to taking care of his body are among the best I have ever seen during my time in this league as a player, coach and executive and I know that he will be diligent in his efforts to return to the court as soon as possible,” Grunfeld said. “Until then, his absence will create opportunities for other players to step up and provide the rebounding and defense that Emeka normally contributes.”

Okafor averaged 9.7 points and 8.8 rebounds in 79 games for the Wizards last season.
