DeMarcus Cousins Hopes John Wall Will 'One Day Be In A Sacramento Uniform'

Nov 28, 2016 7:34 PM

DeMarcus Cousins spoke to the media before the Sacramento Kings played the Washington Wizards about the possibility of playing with John Wall.

Cousins was asked if he and Wall ever discuss the situations they presently find themselves in where they're playing for teams not presently considered contenders. Cousins and Wall were teammates at Kentucky.

"Do we ever talk about playing with one another? Is that your question? It's come up," said Cousins. "They're going to all come to Sac. Come to Sac."

Cousins won't be a free agent until 2018 but he is currently adamant about wanting to remain with the Kings. Wall won't be a free agent until 2019.

"He wants me here," said Cousins about Wall. "Eric (Bledsoe) wants us in Phoenix."

Cousins was asked if he thinks there will ever be a time when he plays with Wall.

"You never know. Maybe. There might be a time we team up in a rec league after we retire or something. You never know."

Cousins was finally asked if playing with Wall is something he would want.

"Play with John and Eric again... you never know what will happen. It's the NBA, so hopefully one day he'll be in a Sacramento uniform," said Cousins.

Bradley Beal Fined $15,000 For Grabbing Evan Fournier's Throat

Nov 27, 2016 6:58 PM

Bradley Beal has been fined $15,000 by the NBA for grabbing the throat of Evan Fournier during Friday's 94-91 win by the Washington Wizards over the Orlando Magic.

The incident occurred during a fourth-quarter scuffle that resulted in double technical fouls being called on Beal and Fournier.

While several players from both teams clustered together amid some pushing, Beal reached out with his left arm and grabbed Fournier’s throat hard enough to leave a mark.

Ian Mahinmi Returns To Practice, Expected To Play By End Of Month

Nov 19, 2016 4:30 PM

Ian Mahinmi participated in his first on-court activity with the Washington Wizards for the first time in more than a month.

Mahinmi underwent surgery to repair a partially torn medial meniscus on Oct. 14.

Mahinmi is expected to be ready to play in games by the end of the month.

“Obviously it’s not a live full-blown practice but it’s my first time being on the court with everybody. I went through every drill, no restriction,” Mahinmi said after the session. “That’s the goal, to come back before the end of the month, and everything depends on how my knee reacts going into a full-blown practice.”

Mahinmi has not yet played five-on-five, or even competed in a one-on-one drill against a teammate.

Marcin Gortat: We've Got One Of The Worst Benches In The NBA

Nov 13, 2016 7:24 PM

Marcin Gortat sharply criticized the bench play of the Washington Wizards after their loss to the Chicago Bulls on Saturday to drop to 2-7 this season.

“We need energy. We need effort. We’ve got to make shots,” Gortat said. “I think there’s a lot of things we can do better. I think right now, as far as I know, I think we’ve got one of the worst benches in the league right now.”

The Wizards' preferred starting lineup of John Wall, Bradley Beal, Otto Porter Jr., Markieff Morris and Gortat has a 101.2 offensive rating and 100.7 defensive rating, but overall the Wizards are 100.1 and 104.8.

Jared Dudley, Garrett Temple, Ramon Sessions, Gary Neal, Nene and Kris Humphries are all gone from Washington's roster.

“I’m not afraid to throw guys in there,” Brooks said. “Age has nothing to do with my process. Experience, that helps but you gain experience day by day if we do our job of developing our guys.”

John Wall Ejected For 2nd Straight Game

Nov 10, 2016 10:29 AM

John Wall was ejected for the second straight game as he's showing frustration with the lack of calls he is receiving.

In Wednesday's game, Wall committed a flagrant-2 foul with five minutes remaining in the Washington Wizards' 118-93 blowout win of the Boston Celtics.

“Just me getting frustrated,” Wall said.

Wall named Avery Bradley as the main culprit of fouls against him.

“My finger’s bleeding the whole game. Got stepped on on purpose. Go the basket a couple times & didn’t get calls and the play before I (fouled Smart) I got smacked right across the face in my ear so I just let my frustration get the best of me,” he said.

Wall didn't communicate his frustrations with the referees.

“Nope. Not a word. I just keep getting beat up and keep playing basketball,” said Wall.

Wall later apologized on Twitter: "Just want to take a moment to apologize to my coaches, teammates and fans for losing my cool tonight. The last thing i would ever want to do is to let you all down. I love and respect this game (too) much."

Wizards Plan To Sign Otto Porter In Offseason

Nov 4, 2016 2:27 PM

The Washington Wizards would like to keep Otto Porter as part of their long-term plans despite not agreeing upon an extension.

"We had conversations but we want Otto here long-term," Ernie Grunfeld said. "We like Otto. We really like what he brings to the table. He’s a really good player that meshes well with John (Wall) and Brad (Beal) who like to have the ball in their hands. Otto cuts and spots up and he does a lot of little things. He makes a lot of winning plays that don’t show up in the boxscore. Our intention is in the offseason is to have Otto signed and have him here long-term."

Porter will make $5.9 million this season as the No. 3 overall pick in 2013. Porter will become restricted when the Wizards make him a $7.7 million qualifying offer (125% of his salary, required by the CBA). If the Wizards don't make him a qualifying offer, he'd become unrestricted and free to sign with any team.

"We like everything about him. Great character, very hard worker, very low key, does everythng behind the scenes," Grunfeld said. "I talked to Otto and let him know that he’s very important to us and we expect him to continue to work hard, continue to improve and continue to contribute to what we’re tyring to do."
