Jamine Peterson Named D-League Player Of The Week

Jamine Peterson of the New Mexico Thunderbirds was today named NBA Development League Performer of the Week for games played during the week of March 21.

Peterson, a 6-6, 225-pound rookie forward out of Providence, led the Thunderbirds to a 3-1 record on the week, averaging 24.9 points and 8.8 rebounds.

Peterson put together a pair of outstanding performances in back-to-back road games this weekend. He had 40 points and 13 rebounds in a 121-101 win at Springfield on Saturday, and followed that with 36 points and 12 rebounds in a 129-97 loss at Fort Wayne on Sunday. Peterson also began the week with 19 points and eight rebounds in a 104-100 win over Bakersfield on Tuesday.

Blakely, Stinson Named D-League Players Of The Week

Marqus Blakely and Curtis Stinson of the Iowa Energy were today named NBA Development League Co-Performers of the Week for games played during the week of March 14.

Blakely and Stinson led the Energy to a 2-0 record on the week, helping Iowa clinch the Eastern Conference title. Blakely, a 6-5, 225-pound forward out of Vermont who was in training camp with the Los Angeles Clippers, averaged 29.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks. Stinson, a 6-3, 215-pound guard out of Iowa State who played in the 2010 NBA Summer League with the Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors, averaged 31.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 12.5 assists and 2.0 steals.

Mitchell, Ewing Named D-League Players Of The Week

Tasmin Mitchell of the Erie BayHawks and Patrick Ewing Jr. of the Sioux Falls Skyforce were today named NBA Development League Co-Performers of the Week for games played during the week of March 7.

Mitchell, a 6-7, 245-pound forward out of LSU who was in training camp with the Cleveland Cavaliers, led Erie to a 2-1 record on the week, averaging 23.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.3 steals.

Ewing Jr., a 6-8, 235-pound forward out of Georgetown who was drafted by the Sacramento Kings in the second round (43rd overall) of the 2008 NBA Draft, led Sioux Falls to a 2-1 record last week, averaging 20.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists.

Sioux Falls Acquire McDowell, Waive Anthony Harris

The Sioux Falls Skyforce announced that the team has acquired guard Stephen McDowell from the available player pool. To make room for him on the roster the team waived guard Anthony Harris due to injury.

McDowell holds NBA Development League career averages of 7.4 points and 2.3 assists in 38 games (eight starts) with the Bakersfield Jam (3), New Mexico Thunderbirds (32) and Austin Toros (3). He scored a season-high 25 points to go along with six rebounds and three steals for New Mexico on Jan. 10. The 6-0, 180-pound guard was named All-Southern Conference First Team after averaging 18.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in 35 games (all starts) as a senior at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2008-09.

Leo Lyons Named D-League Performer Of The Week

Leo Lyons of the Austin Toros was named NBA Development League Performer of the Week for games played during the week of Feb. 28.

Lyons, a 6-9, 240-pound forward out of Missouri who has played in the NBA Summer League with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks, led Austin to a 2-1 record on the week, averaging 31.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

In a two-game split with Texas last week, Lyons scored 34 points in a 138-136 loss on Wednesday, and netted 32 points on 12-of-18 shooting in Austin’s 132-122 win on Thursday. On Saturday, Lyons had a game-high 29 points and eight rebounds, leading to the Toros to a 115-96 win over Sioux Falls.

Ivan Johnson, Curtis Stinson Named D-League Players Of Month For February

Ivan Johnson of the Erie BayHawks and Curtis Stinson of the Iowa Energy have been named NBA Development League Co-Players of the Month for games played in February.  The honor is the first for both Johnson and Stinson, and it is also the first for Erie and Iowa this season.

Johnson, a 6-8, 230-pound forward out of Cal State San Bernardino who has worked out with the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves, led Erie to a 6-2 record in February, averaging 24.5 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists, shooting 61.2 percent from the field. An NBA D-League All-Star, Johnson scored 30 or more points three times last month, highlighted by a 37-point performance in Erie’s 125-100 win over New Mexico on Feb. 10.

Stinson, a 6-3, 215-pound guard out of Iowa State who played in the 2010 NBA Summer League with the Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors, led Iowa to an 8-2 record last month, averaging 17.0 points, 10.4 assists and 6.7 rebounds. In addition to playing in the NBA D-League All-Star Game, Stinson scored in double figures eight times, had six games with double-digit assists and logged two triple-doubles in February.

This month’s honorable mention selections for NBA D-League Player of the Month were Austin’s Lance Thomas, Bakersfield’s Derrick Byars, Dakota’s Mike Anderson, Erie’s Tasmin Mitchell, Idaho’s Jermareo Davidson, Iowa’s Othyus Jeffers, Maine’s DeShawn Sims, New Mexico’s Shane Edwards, Reno’s Danny Green, Rio Grande Valley’s Jerel McNeal, Sioux Falls’ Patrick Ewing Jr., Springfield’s Scottie Reynolds, Texas’ Joe Alexander, Tulsa’s Elijah Millsap and Utah’s Brandon Costner.
