Amath M'Baye Forgoes Senior Season, Enters Draft

Mar 27, 2013 9:56 PM

Amath M’Baye will forgo his senior season of eligibility to enter the NBA draft.

M'Baye, a native of France, is a longshot to make an NBA roster next year.

"I grew up watching the Euro league stuff. I can tell you it's not that bad over there," he said. "They make a great living for themselves. It's a great environment to play in. The NBA is definitely a dream. It's still a goal of mine. But the options are not bad at all."

M’Baye is set to graduate from the University of Oklahoma in May.

Source Expects Fewer NBA-Caliber International Players In Coming Years

Mar 6, 2013 12:50 PM

The depressed financial situation for several top European clubs is expected to mean fewer NBA-caliber International players in coming years, according to a source.

The bigger European clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona and CSKA continue to develop players, but most clubs have fewer financial resources to train and develop young players.

Evan Fournier was the first International player selected in the 2012 NBA Draft with the 20th overall pick, whereas picks five through seven in 2011 were on International players.

Rudy Gobert is widely expected to be the top International pick of the 2013 NBA Draft, while Ukraine native Alex Len is playing collegiately at Maryland.

Gregg Popovich Open To Coaching Team USA

Mar 1, 2013 2:28 PM

With Mike Krzyzewski declaring his pending departure from Team USA, Gregg Popovich was adamant it would be an honor to fill the position coaching the men's national team.

“Anybody would feel honored to have their name mentioned as far as the Olympic movement is concerned,” Popovich said. “There are a lot of people who can fill that role. That goes without saying. Anybody would feel humbled and honored to even be talked about in that regard.”

USA basketball spokesman Craig Smith told Fox 29 Sports that president Jerry Colangelo will not allow potential misunderstandings to get in the way of picking the best candidate.

“Jerry’s not going to put himself in a position where he’s not picking the best candidates,” Smith said.
