Teams Begin Canceling Scouting Trips In Preparation For Free Agency

Oct 27, 2011 7:06 PM

While the players and owners have yet to reach agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement, optimism has emerged this week.

As a result, team executives have canceled scouting trips in preparation for free agency.

Agents have also been quietly reaching out to teams on their free agent clients.

Teams have been preparing for free agency for months, but there appears to be a new sense of urgency.

LeBron Uses Twitter To Court Crawford, Nash

Oct 27, 2011 5:36 PM

LeBron James has openly courted Jamal Crawford and Steve Nash on Twitter.

NBA players are typically not allowed to court players under contract with other teams, but the lockout has suspended several rules such as that one.

"Would love to see @JCrossover in a Heat uni! What u guys say?" wrote James about Crawford.

Crawford is a free agent, which makes James' statement permissible under any circumstances.

But Nash remains under contract with the Suns.

"Maybe @SteveNash in a Heat uni! So we can help each other get our 1st ring."

Iverson Eager For NBA Comeback

Oct 27, 2011 4:08 AM

Allen Iverson is eager to make a comeback to the NBA.

“I’ll play for anybody,” Iverson told Yahoo! Sports.

Iverson is 36-years-old and played only briefly last season in Turkey for Besiktas.

Iverson said his final stint in the NBA with the Sixers ended badly due to his distractions with his daughter's health and divorce proceedings.

“That wasn’t me at all,” Iverson said. “Obviously, I was dealing with the situation with my daughter and going through a divorce, and I wasn’t there mentally. In my career those last couple years were so hard for me because I wasn’t there. Mentally, I wasn’t there.

“During those 48 minutes on the basketball court, all I [ever] cared about was that time right there. Nothing else distracted me. But at times, I felt myself standing on the court just thinking about my daughter, thinking about the situation with me and my wife. I wasn’t giving [the teams] everything I had mentally.”

Multiple reports within the past couple years said Iverson has been troubled by financial, alcohol and gambling issues. He admitted there was some truth to his personal problems but declined to go into detail.

“There are going to be people out there that say things,” Iverson said. “But it’s the same thing I teach my kids: ‘If it’s not true, why do you worry about it?’ It bothers me at times because I do have a heart, and my kids do have to hear some of those things. But that’s the only time it bothers me. I’m used to people saying a bunch of things about me that are not true.”

Iverson is willing to play a reserve role for a team.

"I’m just willing to help any squad in any capacity.

“Hopefully, one squad will believe in me and we will go from there. That would be a lot better than having to go overseas.”

Hughes Hopes For NBA Return

Oct 26, 2011 11:02 AM

Larry Hughes is not ready to retire and hopes to return to the NBA. Hughes sat out last season after being unable to find the deal he sought as a free agent.

“Obviously, I wanted to play,” Hughes said recently. “At the same time I wanted to be stable. I didn’t want to go to a situation where it was a one-year deal, or partial guarantee deal where at any time you could be out of there moving on. I wanted certain things after moving around the past three years, to different teams, I wanted something solid. If I didn’t get that, I wasn’t coming back.”
