Erik Spoelstra Says James Harden 'Definitely Changes The Dynamic' Of Sixers

Apr 30, 2022 1:25 AM

Erik Spoelstra discussed the Miami Heat's upcoming series against the Philadelphia Sixers, including the difficulty of guarding both James Harden and Joel Embiid.

"They have two guys that really know how to draw fouls and do it exceptionally well," said Spoelstra on Friday.

Spoelstra made his comments before Embiid was ruled out indefinitely due to an orbital fracture.

Spoelstra added that Harden changes the look of the Sixers from their previous matchups.

"You're talking about an MVP player," said Spoelstra. "A guy who can manipulate the game; he can hurt you whether he's scoring or whether he's assisting, or whether he's just manipulating the defense."

Bam Adebayo said that he expects Jimmy Butler and Kyle Lowry to both be ready for Game 1 on Monday night.

"I'm expecting them to just get healthy day by day, honestly," Adebayo said. "If they can go, they can go. If they're not, we got to go out there regardless."

Chris Paul After Shooting 14-Of-14 In Game 6: 'It's Unbelievably Special'

Apr 29, 2022 1:05 AM

The Phoenix Suns beat the New Orleans Pelicans 115-109 to close out the series in Game 6 on Thursday night.

The Suns were lead by Chris Paul, who scored 33 points on an NBA playoff record 14-of-14 from the field.

"It's unbelievably special, you have no idea how special it is for me," said Paul. "I had no clue (hadn't missed). At halftime I realized I might need to shoot a little bit more."

Only Wilt Chamberlain made more baskets without a miss, going 16-of-16 and 18-of-18 in the regular season.

Deandre Ayton added 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting. Paul and Ayton's combined 92.3% field goal percentage is the highest combined percentage on a minimum 20 shots in the shot-clock era.

The Suns will play the Mavs in the next round.

Apr 28, 2022 1:31 AM

Mike Budenholzer confirmed that Khris Middleton will miss the opening of the Milwaukee Bucks' second round playoff series against the Boston Celtics due to a sprained MCL.

"We miss Khris; I don't think anybody underestimates how important and how effective he is for us," said Budenholzer after the Bucks beat the Bulls in Game 5 to win the series. "While we don't have him, we've got to be our best all up and down the roster."

Game 1 against the Celtics is set to take place on Sunday in Boston.

Each player made illegal claims that ranged between $65,000 and $420,000, according to the earlier October indictment.

The Jazz, currently down 3-2 in their playoff series against the Mavs, placed Dooling on paid administrative leave.

Victor Oladipo On Scoring 23 Points In Game 5 Win: 'I Just Made The Most Of It'

Apr 27, 2022 1:23 AM

The Miami Heat advanced to the second round of the playoffs after beating the Atlanta Hawks 97-94 in Game 5 to win the series 4-1.

Playing without Kyle Lowry and Jimmy Butler, Victor Oladipo lead the team with 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting.

"I remember a year ago today, around this time last year, I was sitting in a dark room by myself and just broke down," said Oladipo after the game. "Not because I quit, but because I was at the lowest point I could be at. And now, God has put me in this position today so I just made the most of it."

The Heat held Trae Young to 11 points in Game 5. Young averaged just 15.4 points in the series.

The Heat are also guaranteed at least six days of rest before playing the winner of the Sixers-Raptors series.

"We'll go back to our cave, bandage up, hopefully get healthy and then we'll see what happens in that series," Erik Spoelstra said. "But definitely the guys have earned a couple days of just quality rest and treatment."

Joel Embiid Experiencing 'Significant Pain' In Right Thumb, Expected To Play In Game 4

Apr 23, 2022 1:48 AM

Joel Embiid is experiencing "significant pain" in his right thumb, sources told Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.

Embiid, who practiced on Friday and is expected to play in Game 4 against the Raptors, may get an MRI in the future to determine if there is ligament damage.

Embiid reportedly wore a protective wrap on his right thumb during Friday's practice.

"He's good. We did a lot of stuff ... we just don't want anybody to hit his arms and hands and all that. But he's fine," said Doc Rivers following the practice.

The Sixers lead the series 3-0.
