Dwyane Wade: Leaving Heat For Bulls Was Decision 'Solely For Me'

Jul 29, 2016 3:25 PM

Dwyane Wade had his introductory press conference with the Chicago Bulls in which he explained his decision to leave the Miami Heat.

“I have no rift with Pat Riley," said Wade. "This year, the direction of that organization was a little different than it was in years past."

Wade was offered a two-year, $40 million deal by the Heat.

"I had a contract offer from Miami. It was my decision to be selfish and live out a dream of mine," said Wade. "This was a decision solely for me. It has nothing to do with Pat Riley or Micky Arison."

"I wanted to be a part of building this organization back up," said Wade about the Bulls.

Chris Bosh Believes He Should Be Cleared To Play

Jul 25, 2016 11:14 AM

The Miami Heat and Chris Bosh have discussed whether he should come off blood thinners or continue to take them.

If Bosh comes off the medication, there's no reason why he couldn't return to game action.

Bosh has tried to convince the Heat in the past that he can play while on blood thinners as a new medication he's taking would be out of his system in eight to 12 hours by game-time.

The Heat rejected the idea last season which angered Bosh, who has had blood clots in consecutive seasons.

If Miami continues to fight Bosh on playing, he could take up his case with the players union. Bosh wants to play and believes he should be cleared.

If Bosh doesn’t play a single game this upcoming season, his $25.2 million salary for 2017-18 and $26.8 million for 2018-19 would be cleared this summer from Miami’s cap only if “a doctor that is jointly selected by the league and players association agree his condition is career-ending, or severe enough to put him at risk if he continues playing.”

Juwan Howard Influenced To Pursue Coaching By David Fizdale

Jul 24, 2016 10:36 AM

Juwan Howard expected to pursue a front office career after his retirement from the NBA until he was influenced by David Fizdale.

“It came towards the end of my career when I joined the Heat. David Fizdale is one of the guys who inspired and talked me into coaching,” Howard said. “I’m always going to point the finger at him. At first my mind-set was built on working in the front office, being a scout, and building my way up.

“I had a great conversation one time. Coach Fitzdale came to my house and we had a drink of wine and we were talking and he felt like this team needed me. He felt also the way I grabbed the respect from the guys in the locker room and the leadership qualities and also my knowledge and experience from the game of basketball, that it would be needed on his staff.”

Howard decided he wanted to coach and is now an assistant with the Miami Heat.

“I couldn’t turn that offer down and I have the bug because of him and learning from a guy like [Spoelstra], one of the best coaches in the NBA,” Howard said. “He doesn’t win championships by mistake, obviously he’s doing something right. This is one of the most bright individuals I’ve ever met and that is a fact.”

Pat Riley Admits Regret Over Dwyane Wade's Departure

Jul 16, 2016 7:56 PM

Pat Riley already regrets the departure of Dwyane Wade from the Miami Heat to the Chicago Bulls.

"What happened with Dwyane floored me," Riley said. "I'm going to miss the fact of what I might have had planned for him and his future and how I saw the end and my thought process in how I could see his end here with the Heat. ... It's my responsibility to sort of make that happen. I didn't make it happen. Dwyane left, and the buck stops here."

Wade admitted that a "business" rift with Riley played a big role in his decision to sign with the Bulls.

Riley admitted that he was not as involved in the negotiation process as he needed to be in order to retain Wade.

"I have great regret I didn't put myself in the middle of it and immerse myself in the middle of it and get in a canoe and paddle to the Mediterranean if I had to, be in New York when he arrived on the 6th and greet him at the airport," Riley said. "I wasn't there in the middle of the negotiation, and that's my job. It's not going to be the same without him. We will forge ahead."

Riley believes Wade's decision was not motivated by money.

"That is where we both failed ... I more than he, because he's the asset, he's the star, he's the face of the franchise,'' Riley said. "I should have done everything that I could have verbally in trying to change his mindset to mine, a big picture, a better picture, or one that I thought would help him."

Heat Match Nets' Four-Year, $50M Offer Sheet With Tyler Johnson

Jul 10, 2016 8:12 PM

The Miami Heat have matched the four-year, $50 million offer sheet Tyler Johnson signed with the Brooklyn Nets.

Johnson’s contract included $18 million-plus and $19 million-plus “poison pill” provisions in years three and four of the deal.

Johnson made $507,000 in his second NBA season for the Heat in 2015-16.

Johnson was an undrafted D-League guard in 2015 and played in just 68 games over parts of two seasons. Johnson missed nearly three months this season because of shoulder surgery but returned in the playoffs for Miami.
