The Boston Celtics have agreed to name Mike Taylor the Head Coach of the Maine Red Claws.
Taylor joins the Red Claws after previously working as the top assistant coach for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League. As an assistant with the Vipers, Taylor was responsible for developing game plans, scouting, practice plans and player development. Taylor also has international experience as an assistant coach for the Czech Republic National Team during the summers of 2010, 2011 and 2012. Taylor also was the head coach for Ratiopharm Ulm in Germany from 2003-11 when he took the team from the 2nd Bundesliga and helped guide them to promotion to the Bundesliga and into the Bundesliga playoffs. In his 10 seasons in Europe between teams in Germany and England, Taylor amassed a record of 188-115.
“Mike impressed us with not only his coaching experience, but his enthusiasm and ability to develop young players,” said Boston Celtics Director of Player Personnel Austin Ainge. “He brings a blend of international and NBA D-League experience that will benefit the Celtics’ players assigned to Maine and the entire Red Claws’ roster.”
Hamady N'Diaye has agreed to a non-guaranteed camp deal with the Sacramento Kings.
N'Diaye has a shot to make the regular season roster.
N'Diaye spent last season in the D-League.
The Utah Jazz will invite Trey Gilder to training camp.
The Jazz already have 15 players on their regular season roster, but Raja Bell isn't expected to participate as he continues to await a buyout.
Gilder was also on Utah's 11-12 training camp roster and played in the D-League last season.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have hired Sebastian Pruiti as a video analyst.
Pruiti is the founder of NBA Playbook and also wrote for Grantland in which he broke down game film.
Pruiti spent the 11-12 season as an assistant coach for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the D-League.
The Grizzlies will take a look at Flip Murray, who last played in the NBA during the 2009-10 season.
Murray has played overseas and in the NBA Development League the past two years.
Murray will be joined by forward Ronald Dupree and centers Jerome Jordan, Michael Dunigan and Jarrid Famous on the team's training camp roster.
Curtis Stinson has signed a one-year deal with Cedevita Zagreb of the Croatian League.
Stinson arrives from the D-League Iowa Energy, where he averaged 11.3 points on 44.7 percent shooting in 28 games this past season.
Stinson was named D-League MVP two years ago after averaging 19.3 points, a league-best 9.8 assists and 5.7 rebounds.
Taylor Jenkins has been promoted to head coach of the Austin Toros. Jenkins has served as an assistant coach with the Toros for the past four seasons.
“Taylor has been an integral part of the Toros success over the past four years,” SS&E President of Sport Franchises RC Buford said. “He’s a bright, young talent and knows our system very well which makes him the ideal person to lead the Toros.”
As an assistant coach with the Toros, Jenkins helped guide Austin to the 2012 NBA D-League Championship and the playoffs in 2009 and 2010. During his tenure with the Toros, Jenkins served as an assistant coach on the Spurs 2009 and 2012 Las Vegas NBA Summer League teams and was as an assistant coach with the NBA D-league Select Team during the 2010 Las Vegas NBA Summer League. He was also an assistant coach for the 2009 and 2012 NBA D-League West All-Star teams.
The Santa Cruz City Council has unanimously approved building permits to for a facility to house the Golden State Warriors' D-League affiliate.
The funding of the venue is pending another vote.
Residents of Beach Hill are attempting to stop the arena from being built by threatening a lawsuit. Opponents cite the possibility of added traffic, noise and environmental impacts.
Construction of the facility had already begun.
The Santa Cruz City Council delayed vote on a $5.4 million arena project for an arena to house the Golden State Warriors' D-League affiliate, that includes a $4 million city loan.
The council will meet again in a closed session on Wednesday afternoon.
The driving concern is approving a project that could be halted by a court injunction if a lawsuit is filed and a judge agrees a more extensive environmental review should have been done.
The facility would have 2,950 seats for basketball and up to 4,000 for concerts.
Camas Steinmetz, a lawyer with Aaronson, Dickerson, Cohn & Lanzone in San Carlos, charges the city should have conducted a full environmental review based on the state law.
