Jrue Holiday Remains Committed To Pelicans Ahead Of Trade Deadline

Jan 31, 2020 4:13 PM

While Jrue Holiday has emerged as the player teams would like to acquire ahead of the trade deadline, he is likely to remain with the New Orleans Pelicans.

There had been speculation among teams that Holiday could eventually seek a trade from the Pelicans, but league sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic that he's made it clear he's happy in New Orleans and committed to the franchise. Holiday would like to take the rest of the season to see how the team performs.

The Pelicans have wanted to evaluate the roster throughout the entire season and the belief is David Griffin will stick to that plan.

The Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat are among the teams interested in Holiday with other teams expected to also emerge. The Pelicans are listening to trade calls on Holiday, but their asking price remains high on Holiday.

NBA To Likely Project Decline In 2020-21 Salary Cap, Luxury Tax After Decline In Revenue

Jan 30, 2020 10:46 AM

The NBA is likely to project a decline in the salary cap and luxury tax for the 2020-21 season due to a decline in league-wide revenue, league sources told Adrian Wojnarowski and Bobby Marks of ESPN.

The league will release their projections as early as Thursday, allowing teams to take them into account ahead of the trade deadline.

Many front office executives believe that the salary cap could drop from a projected $116 million down to $113 million next season.

The luxury tax had been projected at $141 million.

The ramifications from Daryl Morey's retweet supporting Hong Kong sovereignty, which included China pulling sponsorships and television coverage, is believed to have cost the league between $150 and $200 million.

No Real Trade Market Right Now For Andre Drummond

Jan 29, 2020 9:28 PM

The Detroit Pistons continue to evaluate trade offers for Andre Drummond, but a deal has been slow to materialize.

"The market has been really slow for Andre Drummond," Adrian Wojnarowski told Stephen A. Smith.

The Pistons expect Drummond to decline his player option for the 20-21 season. The Pistons would like a first round pick for Drummond, but also would like second round picks.

"This is a player right now who has been quiet. It may pick up between now and the trade deadline, but there is not a real market out there right now Drummond," added Wojnarowski.

Execs Believe Grizzlies Have Offer From Mavericks For Andre Iguodala As Fallback

Jan 29, 2020 3:24 PM

The Memphis Grizzlies have continued to posture that they expect to receive a first round pick or Andre Iguodala before the trade deadline.

Some league executives suspect the Grizzlies have a fallback option from the Dallas Mavericks in the form of Courtney Lee and a 2020 second round pick from the Golden State Warriors.

Sources with the Mavericks have tried to refute that theory.

Kings Open To Reconciling With Dewayne Dedmon

Jan 28, 2020 10:18 AM

The Sacramento Kings are open to reconciling with Dewayne Dedmon.

Dedmon fell out of the rotation with the Kings and he subsequently has sought a trade both privately and publicly. Dedmon was fined $50,000 for his comments.

“I would like to be traded,” Dedmon said. “I haven’t been playing, so I would like to go somewhere where my talents are appreciated.”

The Kings have been listening to trade offers for Dedmon, but are only prepared to execute a trade that makes sense for them.

Dedmon signed a three-year, $40 million contract in July with the Kings.

Hassan Whiteside Has 50/50 Chance Of Being Traded By Blazers

Jan 28, 2020 9:00 AM

The Portland Trail Blazers are prepared to listen to trade offers for Hassan Whiteside leading to the deadline. Whiteside is on an expiring contract.

"I don’t believe (Neil) Olshey is robo-calling each team trying to unload Whiteside," writes Jason Quick of The Athletic. "But he will certainly entertain offers. I would put Whiteside’s chances of staying in Portland at 50/50 right now."

One reason why Whiteside may remain with the Blazers beyond the deadline is the lack of options available to them. Quick writes that logical fits like Otto Porter Jr. and Blake Griffin are injured, while Kevin Love and Thaddeus Young have undesirable contracts.
