Kevin Durant: I See Bright Things For Thunder, Great To Be A Part Of It

May 31, 2016 8:39 PM

Kevin Durant will take his time before beginning to consider his options in free agency.

“To be honest, I promise you I haven’t thought about that,” Durant said. “It’s hard to think about that. Especially right now, especially when you’re battling every single day. It’s hard. Give me a couple weeks and talk to me then, but I just don’t know right now, man.”

Durant was proud of the way the Thunder played in the playoffs.

“From (fellow free-agent-to-be) Dion (Waiters) to Enes to Andre, Steven – this is his first time as a starter playing, in this type of atmosphere as one of the main guys,” Durant said. “(Veteran) Randy (Foye) never made it to the Western Conference Finals, and he played a lot. Anthony Morrow had never made it to the playoffs, so I was just proud of how everyone just stayed in the moment and enjoyed it. That’s what I’m most proud of.”

“I see bright things for this team,” he added. “And it’s great to be a part of it.”

76ers Could Sign 'Placeholder' Free Agents On Short-Term Deals

May 31, 2016 4:59 PM

Bryan Colangelo talked about the Philadelphia 76ers' offseason plans as they attempt to put a competitive team on the floor.

The 76ers have substantial cap space but they could struggle to sign a free agent of note as they are perceived as a team still in the midst of a severe rebuild.

A short-term contract to a free agent could make the 76ers more competitive while not compromising their long-term flexibility.

"We may be a year or two years away from having a strong enough story to sell — a key or significant free agent," said Colangelo. "It might be that we're just a little bit young in the process. We are taking the steps necessary to establish a winning culture, a winning desire to express that not only in our actions in terms of trades and draft selections and other things that we do, but we need to show it on the court as well.

"What may be a lot of flexibility this year may be put to use on what I would call 'shorter term deals' or 'placeholder deals' that put us in a more competitive situation so that we can really turn the corner in free agency and subsequent seasons with two things: with a better story with a lot of flexibility."

Thunder Have 'Real Concern' With Warriors' Kevin Durant Infatuation

May 31, 2016 1:04 PM

The Oklahoma City Thunder have a "real concern" with the Golden State Warriors' infatuation with signing Kevin Durant, according to a source.

Durant and the Thunder were one win away from defeating the Warriors in the Western Conference Finals.

“I was just stuck in the moment,” Durant told The Undefeated. “Man, we just lost the game. I embraced my teammates, the coach and GM. I really had no thoughts. I just let everyone know that I felt the same pain that they felt. I just wanted to go through that moment together.”

In free agency, Durant will rely on his agent Rich Kleiman of Roc Nation and his business manager and childhood friend Charlie Bell as he considers his options.

“We will figure it out,” Durant said. “I will talk to my agent, my best friend and my dad. Just talk to those three guys and get some advice from other people. But for the most part, I will talk to them in the next couple of weeks. I don’t even know where my mind is right now.

“I can’t think about what is going to happen in a month. I’m just thinking about what we’ve all been through as a team and embrace my brothers right now.”

Andre Iguodala: It Must Be Fun Playing With A Guy Like Kevin Durant

May 31, 2016 2:28 AM

Andre Iguodala was given the primary responsibility of defending Kevin Durant in the Western Conference Finals.

"He made some really tough shots, which is what I expected," Iguodala said of Durant. "He's a fighter and competitor and fought to the end. It must be fun playing with a guy like that."

Iguodala quickly added a follow-up: "Unless I'm not playing with him."

The Golden State Warriors plan on pursuing Durant in free agency but that would likely require trading away one or more members of their rotation.

Iguodala and Durant were teammates on Team USA for the 2012 Olympics.

Kevin Durant Not Prepared To Start Thinking About Free Agency

May 31, 2016 12:46 AM

Following a Game 7 loss by the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Golden State Warriors, Kevin Durant was asked about his impending free agency.

"I mean, we just lost like 30 minutes ago, so I haven't even thought about it," said Durant. "I'm just embracing my teammates and just reflecting on the season. I'll think about that stuff, I don't know when. But we just lost an hour ago, 30 minutes ago, so I don't know."

Durant will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason for the first time in his career.

Durant was also asked if he feels the Thunder accomplished something special in how they played in the playoffs.

"There's no moral victories in our locker room after the game," said Durant "We're all upset. We wanted to get a chance to play for a championship in The Finals, so that hurts. But when you sit down and look back at what happened throughout the season, you can be proud of not just the players, but everybody in the organization from the top to the bottom people that you guys don't know or ever see contribute to what we bring out on the court. That's just pride, effort, passion, love for the game. Pure love for the game every single night, and that comes from just walking into our practice facility every single day and feeling those vibes and feeling that energy from everyone. I'm just proud of what all we've been through this season. We stuck together and we sacrificed for each other. That's just what makes this game so special."

Heat Will Try To Persuade Hassan Whiteside To Take Less Than Max

May 30, 2016 2:02 PM

Hassan Whiteside would prefer to re-sign with the Miami Heat.

Whiteside has grown comfortable with the Heat and they also offer him living in place without state income tax and greater annual raises.

The Heat will try to sell Whiteside on taking less than the max to create space to do other business in free agency.

Pat Riley has called Whiteside the top priority of the Heat in the offseason.

Miami will have to use cap space to sign Whiteside.

Wizards To Offer Max Five-Year Contract To Bradley Beal

May 27, 2016 11:35 AM

The Washington Wizards are expected to offer Bradley Beal a five-year deal for the maximum amount when free agency begins on July 1st.

Based on the $92 million salary cap projection teams are working with, a max contract would pay Beal around $22 million next season because he could just under 25 percent of the cap amount as a four-year veteran.

Beal earned $5.6 million last season and will have a cap hold of $14.2 million. While the Wizards hope to quickly come to an agreement with Beal, they plan on waiting to sign the deal until they pursue free agents using his cap hold as a lower cap figure.

Beal has been injury prone in his career but productive when healthy.

Beal was the third overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft out of Florida.

Roc Nation Ready To Be Kevin Durant's 'Guiding Light' In Free Agency

May 26, 2016 10:12 PM

While Kevin Durant will be a free agent for the first time in his career, his Roc Nation agency will also be having their first big NBA moment.

“We know this is a big deal and a big moment in his career,” said Rich Kleiman, Durant’s agent with Roc Nation. “We also have to be his guiding light in this. We can’t let the pressure of the situation be bigger than it is. Obviously, we understand all eyes are looking at him and looking at his decisions, and people want to see how we’re going to handle it, too.”

With the Thunder having an excellent playoff run, Durant is widely expected to re-sign with the Thunder.

Jay-Z played an active role in recruiting Durant to the agency but his day-to-day duties are nebulous.
