Patrick Beverley Suspended Three Games For Shoving Deandre Ayton

Nov 24, 2022 2:52 PM

Patrick Beverley of the Los Angeles Lakers has been suspended three games for shoving Deandre Ayton of the Phoenix Suns during Tuesday's game. Beverley took offense to Ayton standing over his Lakers teammate Austin Reaves after a foul.

Joe Dumars, the NBA's Head of Basketball Operations, said the suspension was in part based on Beverley's history of unsportsmanlike acts.

Beverley will miss back-to-back games at the San Antonio Spurs on Friday and Saturday. He'll then miss the Lakers home game against the Indiana Pacers on Monday.

Joe Tsai: Kyrie Irving 'Has To Show He's Sorry' Before Returning

Nov 13, 2022 8:57 AM

Brooklyn Nets governor Joe Tsai met with suspended guard Kyrie Irving recently. While that meeting was productive, Tsai says Irving "still has work to do" before he'll return to the Nets.

“He has to show people that he’s sorry,” Tsai said. “What’s important — and what people miss — is he only apologized after he was suspended.”

Irving has been suspended for the last five games. The veteran point guard has also been ruled out for Sunday's game at the Los Angeles Lakers. When Irving was initially suspended, the length was for a "minimum of five games", but he'll now miss at least six games.

Some have suggested Irving may not return until the Nets are back in Brooklyn on November 20. That would mean Irving would miss a total of eight games.

Kyrie Irving Out At Lakers On Sunday

Nov 12, 2022 3:30 PM

The Brooklyn Nets have listed Kyrie Irving as out for Sunday's matchup at the Los Angeles Lakers. The Nets have offered no further updates for Irving's status beyond the Lakers game.

Saturday's game at the LA Clippers marks the fifth game of Irving's minimum five-game suspension the Nets levied over a week ago. Brooklyn has won three of the first four games that Irving has missed.

Irving will end up missing at least six games, as the earliest he could return will be at the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday. Some have suggested Irving may not play again until the Nets return to Brooklyn to face the Memphis Grizzlies on November 20. That would mean a total of eight games missed for the veteran point guard.

In recent days, NBA commissioner Adam Silver and Nets governor Joe Tsai have had meetings with Irving. Both Silver and Tsai have said those meetings were productive. Both also said that the NBA, the Nets and NBPA are working towards a process that will allow Irving to return to the team.

Adam Silver Believes Kyrie Irving Isn't Antisemitic, 'Got To Right Outcome' With Suspension

Nov 11, 2022 10:15 AM

Adam Silver said on Thursday he doesn't believe Kyrie Irving is antisemitic. Silver met with Irving at the NBA league office in Manhattan on Tuesday.

“We had a direct and candid conversation,” Silver, who is Jewish, said in an interview with The New York Times, adding, “He’s someone I’ve known for a decade, and I’ve never heard an antisemitic word from him or, frankly, hate directed at any group.”

In a follow-up phone conversation, Silver added, “Whether or not he is antisemitic is not relevant to the damage caused by the posting of hateful content.”

Silver told an audience in Washington D.C. that the social media post had done “enormous damage” to Irving and “potentially” to the team and the league. He added that he had “no doubt” that Irving was not antisemitic.

“I feel that we got to the right outcome here in terms of his suspension,” Silver said. “And in retrospect, we may have been able to get there faster. I accept that criticism. But I felt it was important to understand the context in which it was posted to understand what discipline was appropriate, not in any way to excuse it but to understand what discipline was appropriate.”

NBPA Expected To Appeal Kyrie Irving Suspension

Nov 8, 2022 1:23 AM

The Players Association is expected to appeal Kyrie Irving's suspension, according to Jaylen Brown.

"I’m expecting the NBPA to appeal the suspension from Brooklyn. The terms, etc., that went into his return. The terms for his return, they seem like a lot, and a lot of the players expressed discomfort with the terms," Brown told the Boston Globe.

Irving is currently suspended for at least five games.

The Nets recently outlined six items for Irving to complete before he returns to the team, including undergoing training for anti-Semitism and meeting with Jewish leaders.

Irving is expected to meet with Adam Silver on Tuesday.

Kyrie Irving Apologizes In Instagram Post: 'I Am Deeply Sorry To Have Caused You Pain'

Nov 4, 2022 1:37 AM

Kyrie Irving apologized to "all Jewish families and Communities" in an Instagram post on Thursday night.

"To All Jewish families and Communities that are hurt and affected from my post, I am deeply sorry to have caused you pain, and I apologize. I initially reacted out of emotion to being unjustly labeled Anti-Semitic, instead of focusing on the healing process of my Jewish Brothers and Sisters that were hurt from the hateful remarks made in the Documentary.

"I want to clarify any confusion on where I stand fighting against Anti- semticism by apologizing for posting the documentary without context and a factual explanation outlining the specific beliefs in the Documentary I agreed with and disagreed with. I had no intentions to disrespect any Jewish cultural history regarding the Holocaust or perpetuate any hate," wrote Irving.

Irving was most recently suspended by the Nets for at least five games without pay following a press conference in which he took responsibility but did not apologize for linking to an antisemitic film

The Anti-Defamation league rejected Irving's $500,000 donation made to the organization on Thursday.

Kyrie Irving Suspended At Least Five Games Without Pay By Nets

Nov 3, 2022 7:50 PM

The Brooklyn Nets have suspended Kyrie Irving for at least five games without pay.

“Over the last several days, we have made repeated attempts to work with Kyrie Irving to help him understand the harm and danger of his words and actions, which began with him publicizing a film containing deeply disturbing antisemitic hate. We believed that taking the path of education in this challenging situation would be the right one and thought that we had made progress with our joint commitment to eradicating hate and intolerance.

"We were dismayed today, when given an opportunity in a media session, that Kyrie refused to unequivocally say he has no antisemitic beliefs, nor acknowledge specific hateful material in the film. This was not the first time he had the opportunity - but failed - to clarify.

"Such failure to disavow antisemitism when given a clear opportunity to do so is deeply disturbing, is against the values of our organization, and constitutes conduct detrimental to the team. Accordingly, we are of the view that he is currently unfit to be associated with the Brooklyn Nets. We have decided that Kyrie will serve a suspension without pay until he satisfies a series of objective remedial measures that address the harmful impact of his conduct and the suspension period served is no less than five games.”
