The NBA announced today the 28 players who have earned spots to compete in the 2023 Jordan Rising Stars, which will take place on Friday, Feb. 17 at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City as part of NBA All-Star 2023.

Joe Mazzulla and the Boston Celtics staff will coach Team Giannis at next month's All-Star Game, the league announced on Monday.

With the Sixers losing on Monday, the Celtics were guaranteed to have the best record in the Eastern Conference through Sunday.

Mazzulla becomes the third first-year head coach to coach the All-Star team during his first season on the job in the last 24 years. 

The 2023 NBA All-Star starters were announced on Thursday, headlined by LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo as the team captains. James and Antetokounmpo will pick their respective teams shortly before the start of the game.

James is now tied with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for most All-Star selections.

Eastern Conference starters

The All-Star captains for this year will select their teams during a live segment shortly before the start of the All-Star Game. 

The captains, likely to be LeBron James and either Giannis Antetokounmpo or Kevin Durant, and starters will be announced on Thursday.

This will be the sixth time in which the league has used a format where captains select their team, though rosters were selected days before in previous cases.

James is 5-0 in All-Stars games he has captained. 

This year's All-Star Game will take place in Salt Lake City. 

Mac McClung has accepted an invitation to compete in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

McClung will be the first G League player to compete in the dunk contest. McClung appeared in two combined games last season with the Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls.

McClung spent preseason with the Golden State Warriors and now plays for the Delaware Blue Coats of the G League.

KJ Martin has committed to the Slam Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend, sources told Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Martin joins Shaedon Sharpe in the competition. 

All-Star Weekend runs from February 17-19 in Salt Lake City.

LeBron James and Kevin Durant lead the Western and Eastern Conferences, respectively, in the first fan returns of NBA All-Star Voting.

Joining James (West Frontcourt) and Durant (East Frontcourt) as top vote-getters at their respective position groups are Stephen Curry (West Guard) and Kyrie Irving (East Guard). 

Rounding out the West Frontcourt top-3 are Nikola Jokic and Anthony Davis, while Luka Doncic is the other Guard in the West top-2.

In the Eastern Conference Frontcourt top-3 with Durant are Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid. Joining Irving at guard in the East is Donovan Mitchell. 

Fans account for 50% of the vote to determine the starters for the 2023 NBA All-Star Game. Current NBA players and a media panel account for 25% each.
