Nick Nurse To Mold Paul Reed Into 'Pascal Siakam-Type Player'

Jul 26, 2023 12:37 AM

Paul Reed said that Nick Nurse planned to mold him into a "Pascal Siakam-type player" during an interview for Sixers Wire.

“I’ve talked to him plenty of times and it’s always been kind of the same kind of idea. He talked about molding me into a Pascal Siakam-type player. Somebody who can kind of do it all. Shoot the ball, drive, pass, but right now, it’s all about focusing on my shot mechanics," said Reed about his conversations with Nurse.

The Sixers matched a three-year, $23 million offer sheet from the Jazz for Reed this offseason.

Reed added that he was getting more comfortable with a change in his jumper mechanics.

“I’m feeling more confident. More confident every day. Just about changing my shot mechanics a little bit. That’s all they’ve been focusing on and I’m getting more and more comfortable every day.”

Grizzlies Were Primarily Motivated To Move On From Dillon Brooks Due To His Shot Selection

Jul 25, 2023 6:13 PM

The Memphis Grizzlies moved on from Dillon Brooks this offseason and their motivation in doing so was more due to his desire for an increased role on offense than it was for any off the court issues.

The Houston Rockets agreed to acquire Brooks on a four-year, $80 million sign-and-trade.

"I think the reasons the Grizzlies were ready to move on from him are misunderstood," said Tim MacMahon on The Lowe Post. "The nonsense was kind of like at a point where culturally it was time. That was not the primary reason. The primary reason the Grizzlies were trying to replace Dillon Brooks for a full two years, repeatedly going after players that would have replaced him in the trade market, and he probably would have been sent out, was because of the shot selection issue. Dillon did not want to be a fourth or fifth offensive weapon."

The Grizzlies were linked with trade interest in a number of wings such as OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges.

"Ime Udoka wanted him," added MacMahon. "He valued him. He's in Houston a large part because of that. It's on Ime Udoka to deal with that stuff and get the best version of Dillon Brooks that also creates the best possible scenarios for these young guys to grow."

J.B. Bickerstaff 'Under A Measure Of Pressure' With Cavaliers

Jul 24, 2023 2:19 PM

J.B. Bickerstaff enters the 23-24 season reportedly under pressure to guide the Cleveland Cavaliers to an improved offense to match their defense this coming season. The Cavaliers feature a pair of bigs in Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, who both need to play near the basket currently, which has hurt their spacing.

"I think that J.B. Bickerstaff is under a measure of pressure after the way that team played in the playoffs," said Brian Windhorst on his podcast. "And the way they were outmaneuvered. Thibs just did a better job with their lineups. He just did.

"Some of the Cavs went down their leg. Jarrett Allen basically admitted to it.

"They didn't show up in that series for the most part," interjected Tim Bontemps.

"I think J.B. Bickerstaff is under a measure of pressure. He's delivered a terrific defensive game plan for several years now. He has turned them into an elite defensive team. That's why they won 50 games. He's under some pressure to deliver an offensive system that takes advantage of Evan Mobley and finds a way to alleviate the concerns you brought up. Finds a way to play their best defensive lineup on offense."

The potential upside for Mobley on offense is when he has the ball in his hands, but that is difficult considering he plays with a pair of ball dominant guards in Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland.

Deandre Ayton: My Goal Is To Change The Narrative

Jul 20, 2023 4:10 PM

Deandre Ayton is likely to remain with the Phoenix Suns in 23-24 after another offseason in which he was in trade rumors and his status with the team has come under scrutiny.

“I can feel the whole world hating me in a way,” Ayton said in the 37-second video clip Eyewitness News Bahamas tweeted. “I’m the guy a lot of people point at and I see it and feel it, but mainly what I’ve been working on five to six days a week since we’ve lost is just motivating myself to change the narrative of what people think about me. No matter you put it, I feel like I have no fans out there and I can feel it because the whole world is saying it. My goal is over the summer is to change the narrative. Just unlock whatever it is and just completely just focus on me and change the whole thing.”

Frank Vogel is attempting to build a relationship with Ayton after the center had a tumultuous tenure with Monty Williams.

“He's one of the best two-way centers in the game," Vogel said during his introductory press conference. "I think obviously he's going to be a defensive anchor for us. I've long utilized his set in my defensive scheme to build a dominant defense. I think he can do that and I think there's a lot that we can untap offensively with him as well. So he's pivotal part of what we're going to accomplish this year."
