Iguodala Likely To Opt Out Of Contract With Nuggets

Mar 30, 2013 11:25 PM

Andre Iguodala is likely to exercise the opt-out clause in his contact after this season.

Opting out would enable Iguodala to obtain a multi-year deal elsewhere or possibly lengthen his commitment to the Nuggets.

“You got to weigh options,” Iguodala said. “Security-wise, a player would opt, especially with the type of season we’ve had as a team. Teams know what I can bring to them, and I know (the Nuggets) know what I can bring to a team here.

“Players get like $50, $60 or $70 or $80 (million over multiple years), whatever the number was, they gave up a big number (in an option season by opting out). But in the grand scheme of things, pretty much get it back. You got security.’’

Iguodala declined to guarantee he would re-sign with Denver.

“Obviously, it’s a business, so you’re going to look at your options,” Iguodala said. “Here we have some good (prospects). But I’m not making any promises.”

Korver Wants To Sign With Winning Team, Hopes To Play Five More Years

Mar 30, 2013 12:16 PM

Kyle Korver figures to get his share of offers on the unrestricted free-agent market this summer.

“I think I have still got, lord willing and no injuries, four or five good years, but you never know, we’ll see,” Korver said. “At this stage of my career, to be on a bad team, I just don’t want any part of that. It is good to be here. It is always good to be in the playoffs. The playoffs are a whole other world. It is a different game. It is where you make the memories. I want to play in a good culture on a good team.”

Korver, now in his 10th season, credits his longevity to a healthy lifestyle.

“You keep on getting experience. You keep on getting smarter. You learn the little tricks of the trade,” Korver said. “I don’t depend on jumping over people and running by everyone. I stay in great shape and always keep on moving, but I don’t have to necessarily hit a certain speed all the time. I feel the best I have felt in several years. One of things you learn how to do is take care of yourself and that is something I pay a lot of attention to.”

Malcolm Thomas To Sign 2nd 10-Day Contract With Bulls

Mar 29, 2013 11:04 AM

Malcolm Thomas will sign his second 10-day contract with the Chicago Bulls on Friday, a league source told RealGM.

The Bulls have long been intrigued by Thomas’ activity and length and have needed frontcourt depth due to the injuries of Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson. While Gibson returned strong from a sprained MCL, Noah has missed the past three games with recurrence of plantar fasciitis.

Thomas, whose first 10-day contract expired Thursday night, will travel with the Bulls to Dallas to face the Mavericks on Saturday. The 24-year-old forward has a strong chance to stay with the Bulls through the rest of this season and into the summer.

In Wednesday night’s sensational 101-97 win over the Miami Heat, Thomas played the final 20 seconds of the second quarter and helped the Bulls get a defensive stop heading into halftime.

After mutually parting ways with Maccabi Tel Aviv of the European League, Thomas signed with the Golden State Warriors on March 8. He has three points and five rebounds in 21 total minutes this season.

LeBron Wanted Taj Gibson To Join Heat

Mar 27, 2013 12:00 PM

LeBron James tried to convince Taj Gibson to sign with the Miami Heat.

James and Gibson spent together last summer as the U.S. Select Team prepared Team USA for the London Olympics.

“We talked about it a lot because I was coming up on my contract, possibly becoming a free agent,” Gibson said. ‘‘We were kicking it around, and [James] was saying: ‘Come to Miami. Come in, and we’ll treat you right there.’ I was like, ‘Nah, I’m cool with the Bulls.’ ’’

Gibson signed a four-year extension with the Bulls before the start of this season.

‘‘Very flattering,’’ Gibson said of James’ offer. ‘‘I mean, that shows that there is a sense of respect about your game. It means that there are other guys around the league watching you, other than just going up and down the court and banging bodies against each other.’’

Celtics Nearly Signed Kenyon Martin

Mar 27, 2013 11:04 AM

The Boston Celtics nearly signed Kenyon Martin earlier this season.

"It was real close," Martin said. "Like, the deal was almost done. From what I understood, Doc [Rivers] wanted me and the players wanted me, but in the 11th hour …"

The Celtics reportedly prioritized backcourt depth over Martin.

"They didn't pull the trigger," Martin said. "And I'm not talking a few days ago or even a few weeks ago. This was a couple of months ago."

Martin signed with the Knicks last month after sitting out all season.

"So now I'm here and I'm going to make them pay -- I'm going to make all the teams that passed on me pay," Martin said.

Kevin Martin Won't 'Have To Chase Money' In Free Agency

Mar 25, 2013 1:42 PM

Kevin Martin has thoroughly enjoyed his first season with the Oklahoma City Thunder and has stated repeatedly he believes the organization is a good fit for him moving forward.

In his ninth season, Martin does not believe money will play as big of a factor as in the past when he enters free agency this offseason.

"My perception would be happiness and a good fit basketball-wise," Martin said. "I'm in a situation that after nine years I don't have to chase money. So I think that part goes into a lot of guys' minds when it happens. But for me, I found a new happiness here when I got traded here. It feels like a good fit. But we'll see when it comes around.

"I think that's where it just comes down to, what would you be happy with? And I love being a major piece on a championship-caliber team. I'm enjoying the ride.

Kenyon Martin 'Would Love' To Stay With Knicks

Mar 24, 2013 2:14 PM

Kenyon Martin has been a major factor for the Knicks over the past five games averaging 12.2 points and 7.8 rebounds, and he made it clear that he "would love" to stay in New York next season.

One game after posting 19 points and 11 rebounds, Martin dropped 18 points, seven rebounds and two blocks in Saturday's blowout win over the Toronto Raptors.

"I just want people to know that I still can play the game of basketball," Martin said. "I wasn't the No. 1 pick for nothing. I didn't stick around for 12 years for nothing. So just letting people know that I'm still here and hopefully I'm going to be around."
