Carmelo Won't Need Shoulder Surgery

Jun 27, 2013 9:53 PM

Carmelo Anthony does not believe he will require surgery on his on his partially torn left labrum.

"My shoulder feels much better," Anthony said at a ribbon-cutting event for two refurbished courts he provided in Brooklyn. "For the past four-to-five weeks, I've let it rest and heal up. It's not 100 percent yet, but it's much better."

Looking ahead to 2013-14, Anthony said he's not sure what the Knicks need in the draft or free agency.

"It's kind of hard to say you need this piece or that piece," Anthony said. "At the end of the day, man, for me I can't even complain and I won't whine about anything. The only thing I can do is tighten up my belt and keep on moving, keep on going and bring my troops along with me. It's easy to say you need this, you need that after you lose a playoff series."

Kupchak: Dwight Howard Recovered From Back Injury

Jun 25, 2013 8:40 PM

Dwight Howard was plagued by a back injury this past season, and now the Los Angeles Lakers center is progressing with the issue and has worked to put it past him, according to Mitch Kupchak.

"Dwight is in a category of the great," Kupchak said. "He's over his back injury and there's no reason he can't play seven or eight more years at that position, and there's no doubt in my mind (that) if he does, he's in the Hall of Fame, and those players are just hard to come by."

Kupchak has continually said Howard is the Lakers' future and reiterated that message.

"He's our future," Kupchak said.

Wade Had Left Knee Drained Before Game 7 Of Finals

Jun 22, 2013 9:18 PM

Dwyane Wade had his left knee drained one day before Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

Wade played 39 minutes in the finale, scoring 23 points on 11-for-21 shooting.

"We know what he was dealing with," Erik Spoelstra said after Game 7. "Really, he should be commended for being out there and doing whatever it takes, putting himself out there for criticism, possible criticism, because he wasn't 100 percent. And he just helped us win. That was the bottom line. It was a selfless effort for two months. And some players probably wouldn't have played."

Wade said the knee trouble was one of the worst things he’s dealt with in his 10-year career.

"The toughest part of it is, you work all season to get healthy coming off of knee surgery," Wade said. "And when I finally got the way, everybody saw in my play that I was playing great, some of the best basketball in the role I have on this team. Then I get the bone bruises, and something I worked hard for was getting taken away, and I dealt with it for three months. It was disappointing, frustrating. It hurt. I was able to mask it some nights. Some nights, not."

Wade Confident Knee Injury Won't Require Surgery

Jun 22, 2013 11:10 AM

Dwyane Wade does not believe his troublesome right knee will require surgery.

Wade was diagnosed with a deep bone bruise.

“There will be a few treatments, but it won’t be surgery,” he said. “A lot of rest is going to be key for them. I’m going to treat my knees very well this summer.”

Wade’s optimism is partially attributed to the fact that he scored 23 points in Game 7 of the NBA Finals — after going a career-long 12 games in a row without reaching that plateau.

“To have that kind of performance, help lead my team, it’s special,” he said. “So special.”

Bryant: Achilles Feels Better Than Before Injury

Jun 20, 2013 5:33 PM

Kobe Bryant continues to rehab his surgically repaired Achilles and is encouraged by the early results.

“I think it’s going to be fine, I think it’s going to be more than fine. I’m very pleased with where I’m at,” Bryant said. “I can get up in the morning, get up and walk to the bathroom like nothing was wrong. There was a point where you’d get up and it’s really stiff cause I’d been immobile all night and it was tough to walk a little bit. It feels better than it did before I got hurt.”

Bryant is progressing in his rehab, although he is still months away from a return to the court.

“At the beginning stages, it was just really boring stuff. Just trying to get out the inflammation, trying to break up the scar tissue, make sure your toes are working – that sort of stuff,” Bryant said. “Now I’m starting to do a little bit more things – walking on the Alter G (treadmill), doing a little bit of the elliptical, doing some strength work, like calf raises and things like that.”

Bryant is eagerly awaiting the day he can rehab without restrictions.

“As soon as they take the governor off, when they think the tendon is strong enough for me to progress to really heavy weights, more conditioning, running and things like that, then it’s on me,” Bryant said. “I won’t have any fear or any worry of having the tendon rupturing again. There’s nothing I can do about it. If it goes again, it goes again. Once I’m ready to go, it’s going to be on.”

Tony Parker To Risk Hamstring Tear In Game Five

Jun 15, 2013 11:39 PM

Tony Parker said Saturday that his ailing hamstring is at risk of getting much worse.

“My hamstring can tear at any time now,” he said, “so if it was the regular season I would be resting. But now it’s the NBA Finals. If it gets a tear, it’s life.”

Parker is dealing with a right hamstring strain.

“I feel like I’m getting stronger with it,” he said. “My goal is to be close to 100 percent by tomorrow (for Game 5). I felt confident, being disciplined with all the treatments, with the ice. Hopefully I’ll be good by tomorrow.”

Derrick Rose Has Confidence Back In Workouts

Jun 13, 2013 10:32 PM

Derrick Rose missed the entire 2012-13 season as he recovered from his torn ACL, but Tom Thibodeau said he is beginning to feel like himself again.

"I worked him out about a week ago," Thibodeau said on Thursday. "It was great."

The Chicago Bulls reached the second round of the NBA Playoffs without Rose.

"Watching the way he's moving now, there's a confidence," Thibodeau said. "(Reporters) may not have been able to see the total work he was putting in. But he was putting in an enormous amount of work each and every day. He just never got to the explosiveness he was comfortable with. I think he's there now. He feels great, and that's the most important thing."

Rose was medically cleared in mid-February and practiced in 5-on-5 situations while also working out pre-game.

"The kid was being totally honest," Thibodeau said. "At the end of the day, you have to respect that. He wanted to be out there very badly. But no one knew when he would be ready, including him. It was a smart decision to wait. If you're not quite sure, and you're going to err, err on the side of caution. That's what he did. And now he feels great."
