Lonzo Ball 'At Standstill' In Recovery From Torn Meniscus

Apr 28, 2022 5:11 PM

Lonzo Ball said Thursday he remains "at a standstill" in his recovery from a torn meniscus in his left knee.

Ball will meet with a knee specialist next week to determine the next step in his recovery.

Ball had arthroscopic surgery on his knee in January and the team released an initial recovery timeline of six to eight weeks. But his knee never responded properly to the team's attempts to ramp up his basketball activity in the middle of March before he was shut down in early April.

"We kind of let it calm down for the last two weeks, I was going at it pretty hard trying to get back as fast as possible," Ball said at his exit interview at the team's practice facility on Thursday. "But like I said, at a standstill. I still have pain. Gotta get that figured out this summer for sure."

Ball could potentially undergo a follow-up surgery.

"Hopefully not," he said. "I wouldn't want to have another one. But if that's what it takes, then I pretty much have no choice at this point."

Ball signed a four-year, $85 million deal with the Bulls during the 2021 offseason.

Apr 28, 2022 8:30 AM

Khris Middleton has a Grade 2 sprain in his MCL and is expected to miss the entirety of the Milwaukee Bucks' second round series against the Boston Celtics.

The typical recovery for a Grade 2 sprain could also mean Middleton misses the Eastern Conference Finals should the Bucks advance.

Middleton suffered the injury during Game 2 of the first round.

During last year's playoffs, Middleton averaged 23.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 5.1 assists over 23 games as the Bucks won the championship.

Mike Budenholzer Confirms Khris Middleton To Miss Start Of Celtics Series

Apr 28, 2022 1:31 AM

Mike Budenholzer confirmed that Khris Middleton will miss the opening of the Milwaukee Bucks' second round playoff series against the Boston Celtics due to a sprained MCL.

"We miss Khris; I don't think anybody underestimates how important and how effective he is for us," said Budenholzer after the Bucks beat the Bulls in Game 5 to win the series. "While we don't have him, we've got to be our best all up and down the roster."

Game 1 against the Celtics is set to take place on Sunday in Boston.

The team originally scheduled Middleton, who suffered the injury in Game 2 against the Bulls, to be reevaluated two weeks from the injury.

That timeline places Middleton to be reevaluated next Wednesday, following Game 2.

Devin Booker Could Play In Game 6 Or 7

Apr 27, 2022 8:54 PM

Devin Booker could return as early as Game 6 on Thursday or a potential Game 7 on Saturday as the Phoenix Suns battle the New Orleans Pelicans.

Booker has made significant progress with his strained right hamstring in recent days. Booker suffered the injury during hte third quarter of Game 2.

Booker would return in limited minutes if he's cleared.

"He is progressing but there's no change (to status)," Monty Williams said after a light practice Wednesday in New Orleans. "Any time you have your best player out, you know that guy wants to be on the floor. If it was an elimination game type situation ... I'm sure that would have an impact on it."

Zach LaVine To Undergo Offseason Surgery On Knee

Apr 27, 2022 4:13 PM

Zach LaVine will undergo surgery on his left knee this offseason, a source tells Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times.

LaVine's surgery will likely be arthroscopic.

LaVine downplayed the severity of the injury when asked about indicating that the discomfort was at 80 percent or 70 percent of normal when the reality was "more like 50 percent and that's on a good day."

LaVine's maintenance on the knee has been an all-day ordeal and some other players would have been shut down.

The injury to the knee is not considered degenerative and shouldn't impact LaVine long-term.

LaVine will be a free agent this offseason though he could instead sign an extension before then with the Chicago Bulls. The two sides appear to be on the same page with the direction of the roster.

He’s one of our best passers and one of our best defenders.”
