Jayson Tatum Opted Against Offseason Wrist Surgery

Sep 30, 2023 11:07 AM

Jayson Tatum had his left, non-shooting, wrist heavily wrapped for a large chunk of last season. There was a thought Tatum might need offseason surgery on the wrist, but according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, the Celtics star opted against surgery.

“(Tatum) went into the offseason thinking he might need surgery on his non-shooting wrist," Shelburne said. "(He) went to a bunch of specialists and essentially decided 'I'm not going to get surgery. I don't need it.'”

Shelburne added that Tatum said he feels really good heading into the season.

Kawhi Leonard, Paul George 'Fully Healthy' Ahead Of Training Camp

Sep 28, 2023 1:30 AM

Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are entering training camp "fully healthy," according to Los Angeles Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank.

"Both are fully healthy. I think both have had extremely productive offseasons, and obviously our two best players are totally invested in doing special things for the Clippers," said Frank on Wednesday.

Leonard and George each have a $48 million player option for the 2024-25 season, and both are eligible to sign four-year extensions worth $223 million.

Frank also addressed the possibility of the Clippers upgrading the roster. James Harden was rumored as a trade target, though there was no traction on a deal.

"You are always looking for ways to get better, both individually, as a team. ... From our standpoint, we'll always be aggressive trying to find ways to improve the team," added Frank.

Malcolm Brogdon, Kristaps Porzingis Ready For Start Of Celtics Training Camp

Sep 27, 2023 8:45 AM

Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens gave an encouraging update on the health of two key players, a week out from training camp. Stevens said both Kristaps Porzingis and Malcolm Brogdon are ready to go when camp kicks off next week.

Porzingis has been dealing with plantar fasciitis, which kept him out of the FIBA World Cup for Latvia. The team's key offseason addition has been featured in social media posts from the Celtics in recent days, as he works out at the team facility.

“Kristaps has been running up and down the court the last few days,” Stevens said. “I thought the progression that his trainers there (in Latvia), our trainers here, and everybody came up with to get him back so that he could avoid anything lingering was a key. He feels great. I just literally talked to him on the phone on my way here. He said he feels good.”

Brogdon was nearly traded in the deal that brought Porzingis to Boston. He's also spent the summer rehabbing from an elbow injury suffered in last season's playoffs.

Stevens acknowledged that Brogdon may be upset about how the summer has been. The Celtics front office leaders said both sides are working toward the season now.

“Of course, and I would say he had every right to feel (upset),” Stevens said. “We said that this summer. But he’s a real pro and so we’ve had several discussions. He’s looking forward to getting started. We’re looking forward to getting started and here we go.”

Ben Simmons 100 Percent For Start Of Training Camp, Will Do 5-On-5

Sep 26, 2023 10:09 AM

The Brooklyn Nets will have Ben Simmons on the court when training camp starts next week. Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn said that Simmons is 100% for the start of camp and that the versatile guard/forward will do 5-on-5 work from the jump.

Simmons has appeared in 42 games for Brooklyn, since the team acquired him at the 2022 NBA trade deadline. Simmons missed the last 24 games of the regular season and the playoffs for the Nets last season, due to a back injury.

Simmons recently said his back is in a better place than it has been in years. He also said he expects to play point guard for the Nets this upcoming season.

Malcolm Brogdon Upset With How Celtics Handled Elbow Injury

Sep 21, 2023 8:56 AM

On ESPN's NBA Today show, Ramona Shelburne reported that she has also heard Malcolm Brogdon isn't happy with the Boston Celtics. However, Shelburne said it's not being in trade talks that has Brogdon upset.

“I don’t think the bad feelings are over including him in any trade discussions," Shelburne said. "I think a lot of this has to do with what’s going on with his elbow.”

Shelburne said that Brogdon understands the trade process and will handle that professionally. Her understanding is that the veteran guard has concerns on where his elbow is at, and how that has been handled since he was injured in last season's playoffs.

Ben Simmons: I'm A Point Guard

Sep 19, 2023 9:04 AM

Ben Simmons is at the tail-end of what many experts said would be an 18-month recovery from back surgery. Simmons is expected to be 100% by November. When he is, the Brooklyn Nets versatile player expects to be the team's lead guard again. Simmons said he's gotten assurances from Nets coach Jacque Vaughn that he'll be running the offense again too.

“That’s what I know. As much as people would try to put me (at power forward). Everyone’s a GM in their head. I’m a point guard,” Simmons said. “So, I think with the team we have I think it’s constructed well for us to have a good run.

“Get ready for a great year. I think it’s going to be exciting. We’re going to have a lot of fun and get back to Brooklyn basketball.”

Simmons also knows he's disappointed some people over the last few years. He's not making any excuses though, as he owns it's on him to win people over again.

“I’d say (the hardest part was) not be able to do your job to the fullest. I never have excuses, I never tried to say anything about different things going on. But I was dealing with an injury at the time, so I did what I could in the moment,” Simmons said. “And I owe it to everybody, the fans and everybody, to get back to where I need to be. That’s what I did this summer to get back.”

Luka Doncic Says Leg Injury Is 'Not Okay' But Will Keep Playing

Sep 9, 2023 9:15 AM

Luka Doncic admitted he's still dealing with a leg injury that he suffered shortly after the 2023 NBA All-Star Break. But Doncic said the injury won't keep him from playing, or from being ready for the upcoming Dallas Mavericks season.

"I do not know what to say," Doncic said about the injury. "It's not okay. At the same time, I have to prepare for one more game, and then for a whole season in the NBA."

Doncic went on to say he's healthy enough to play, or he would be sitting out. The Mavs and Slovenian star also said he's not playing because of pressure from FIBA, but because he loves representing his country.

"There is also one of the questions, but I play for Slovenia, not for FIBA," Doncic said. "I play no matter what, even in the Olympic qualifiers, if only I'm healthy."

Doncic also owned the criticism of Slovenia falling short of expectations, but that it hasn't changed his desire to represent his country.

"There is a lot of criticism every day, but I have learned to live with it. I don't think I'm the best in the world, though," Doncic said. "I simply love playing for Slovenia and will continue to do so."
