Duke's Dariq Whitehead Out Indefinitely Following Foot Surgery

Dariq Whitehead underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a fracture in his right foot.

Whitehead was the No. 2 recruit in the 2022 class and set to begin his freshman season at Duke. Whitehead is a projected top-10 pick in the 2023 NBA draft.

"We are happy to share that Dariq underwent a successful procedure today, and is in the best care with our doctors and rehabilitation staff," said head coach Jon Scheyer in the release. "We're confident he'll be back on the court soon."

Whitehead is out indefinitely but expected to return sometime "this fall."

Devin Williams Commits To UCLA Over USC

Devin Williams announced his commitment to UCLA, choosing the Bruins over USC.

"When I went on my official visit to UCLA, I had a chance to watch practice," Williams told ESPN. "Everything is really competitive. Mick Cronin reminds me of my high school coach Josh Giles. Mick Cronin is a great guy. And he's an honest guy. I need that honesty to develop and reach my goals."

Williams is currently ranked No. 57 in the ESPN 100, but will enter the top 50 when the next rankings are released.

Williams is UCLA's first commitment for the 2023 class.

Asemota is currently ranked No. 29 in the ESPN 60 for his class.

The 6-foot-9 forward from Arizona is the highest-ranked junior to commit to a college thus far.

Eastern Michigan Officially Announces Emoni Bates Transfer

Emoni Bates officially announced his transfer to Eastern Michigan on Tuesday.

Bates, who originally shared his plans two months ago, said he was looking forward to the homecoming.

"I love my city and coming home to do something special was big for me," Bates said. "I've known several of the guys on the team from playing together and competing. Having a strong relationship and bond with my teammates and coaching staff was important to me."

Bates averaged 9.7 points and 3.3 rebounds as a freshman at Memphis last season.

Eastern Michigan finished last year with a 10-21 record.

Keyontae Johnson Transfers To Kansas State

Keyontae Johnson announced that he was signing with Kansas State over the weekend.

The former Florida Gator hasn't played since collapsing on the court during a game in December 2020.

Johnson, who is medically cleared to play, will have at least one year of eligibility remaining.

"We are just so excited to welcome Keyontae and his family to K-State," said Kansas State coach Jerome Tang. "He is a gifted player and a winner who brings significant experience to our team after playing in one of the toughest leagues in the country while at Florida."

Pete Carril, the Hall of Fame coach who brought notoriety to the "Princeton Offense" during his 30-year tenure with the Tigers, died Monday morning at the age of 92.

"We kindly ask that you please respect our privacy at this time as we process our loss and handle necessary arrangements. More information will be forthcoming in the following days," the Carril family said in a statement released by Princeton.

Tom Izzo Signs New 5-Year, $31M Contract With Michigan State

Tom Izzo and Michigan State agreed to a new five-year, $31 million contract.

The deal, which gives Izzo around a $2 million raise, will need approval from the school board next month.

The 67-year-old Izzo has held the position since the 1995-96 season, leading the school to 24 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.

Izzo was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.

Scotty Middleton committed to Ohio State on Sunday, becoming the first five-star recruit in the Chris Holtmann era.

Middleton picked the Buckeyes over Seton Hall and UConn.

Middleton is currently ranked No. 18 in the ESPN 100 for the 2023 class.

The small forward is the highest recruit for Ohio State since D'Angelo Russell in 2014.

"Scotty is one of the most competitive players I've coached," said his high school coach Luke Barnwell. "He has a high basketball IQ and is an elite on-ball defender. He has worked to become an efficient shooter and scorer."
