Celtics Fan Arrested For Apparently Throwing Water Bottle At Kyrie Irving

May 31, 2021 12:03 AM

A Boston Celtics fan was arrested for allegedly throwing a water bottle at Kyrie Irving.

The incident occurred with Irving leaving the court following the Nets 141-126 win over the Celtics.

"You can see that people just feel very entitled out here," said Irving about the incident. "They paid for their tickets -- great, I'm grateful that they're coming in to watch a great performance. But we're not at the theater. We're not throwing tomatoes and other random stuff at the people that are performing."

A TD Garden spokesperson said that the fan was subject to a lifetime ban from the arena.

The incident is among a string of occurrences between fans and players, including a fan dumping popcorn on Russell Westbrook and Trae Young getting spit upon at Madison Square Garden.

Monty Williams Planned To Sit Chris Paul For Game 4 But 'Had To Trust The Player'

May 30, 2021 10:01 PM

Monty Williams originally planned to sit Chris Paul for the Phoenix Suns' 100-92 win over of the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4.

"He said, 'Coach, let me start, and if you don't think I'm looking like I normally do, then take me out and we'll have to go in a different direction,'" said Williams of a pre-game conversation with Paul that changed his mind.

Paul finished the game with 18 points and nine assists.

Paul told his teammates that he would only play if he could help the team.

"I told them, 'I don't know how long it's going to be, but if you all feel like I'm out here looking like some trash, just tell me and I'll get out," said Paul.

Game 5 is on Tuesday. Anthony Davis' status is currently "unclear" due to a groin injury.

Nate McMillan After Game 4 Win: Game 5 'Will Be The Hardest Game Of The Series'

May 30, 2021 9:50 PM

The Atlanta Hawks beat the New York Knicks 133-96 in Game 4 to take a 3-1 series lead.

Nate McMillan reminded his team afterwards that the next game would be the hardest of the series.

"As I told our guys, this game will be the hardest game of the series to close a team out," McMillan said. "We know they're gonna come and they're gonna fight. This will be the hardest game of the series. I expect it to be physical. I expect both teams to come with urgency in this next game."

The game finished with a chippy ending, with Reggie Bullock receiving a technical and Julius Randle called for a flagrant foul on Danilo Gallinari.

Trae Young said that his focus was on the court.

"I just be trying to keep it basketball. I don't care if they are in their feelings or who's mad and who's not. It's just basketball at the end of the day. We're just trying to win. All the extra stuff, it is what it is. We're locked in," said Young afterwards.

Young lead the team with 27 points and nine assists. Young has lead the Hawks in scoring and assists in all four games.

Game 5 takes place on Wednesday.

Donovan Mitchell Says Mike Conley Makes 'My Job Easier' After Game 3 Win

May 30, 2021 12:43 PM

Mike Conley scored 27 points as the Utah Jazz beat the Memphis Grizzlies 121-111 in Game 3.

The Jazz now lead the series 2-1.

"Mike was terrific, man," said Donovan Mitchell after the game. "On both ends of the floor. He was Mike Conley. And he always has been for us all year, and he's taken it to an even nother level. And I feel like when you have a guy like that who can handle the ball, who can control the game, as well, it makes my life and my job easier."

The Jazz closed the game on a 14-2 run over the last 4:15 of regulation.

Conley also tied a career-high with seven 3s in the game.

Quin Snyder credited Conley's defense on Ja Morant for turning the game around.

"Obviously, Ja is such a terrific player. I thought really as much as anything, Mike Conley, he was unbelievable. Just his quickness, his presence on the ball," said Snyder.

Conley added that it felt "surreal" playing against Morant and the Grizzlies in Memphis.

"Just seeing a guy that's so talented, he's a young superstar in the league, wearing the jersey that I'm so used to wearing. Getting the cheers from the crowd that I'm so used to hearing. It's surreal. It's like full circle. You never thought that it would be this way."

Doc Rivers Calls Joel Embiid 'Special' Following 36-Point Game

May 30, 2021 12:38 AM

Joel Embiid scored a playoff career-high 36 points as the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Washington Wizards 132-103 to take a 3-0 series lead.

Embiid achieved his point total in 28 minutes, with the Wizards not double-teaming Embiid as aggressively as they did earlier in the series.

"It was one-on-one, and I wanted to take advantage of it. I guess that's on them to make that choice," Embiid said. "It's hard to stop me if you send a double-team or not."

Embiid is averaging 30.6 points on 67% shooting in the series.

The Sixers shot 59% in the game, while making 17-of-33 from the three-point line.

Michael Malone Say Some Nuggets 'Played Soft' Following Game 4 Loss

May 30, 2021 12:30 AM

The Denver Nuggets lost 115-95 to the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 4, with the series now even 2-2.

Michael Malone hit out at his team's lack of urgency in the game.

"Our starters were awful," Malone said after the game. "I thought we had some guys that were tentative, that looked a little scared, who played soft ... we're going to have to be a lot better going home."

The Nuggets' starters were outscored 49-26 while shooting just 30% from the field.

The Blazers also shot 65% from the field against the Nuggets starters.

The Nuggets held Damian Lillard to one field goal in 31 minutes, though Malone did not want to take credit for his struggles.

"There's no silver linings when you get your ass kicked in a playoff game. I can't believe we're actually talking about playing hard in a playoff game. That should be a given."
