Myles Turner and the Indiana Pacers have reached agreement on a rare renegotiation-and-extension. Turner will up his currently salary by over $17 million, while adding two new years and nearly $41 million to his deal.
Because Turner is extension-eligible and the Pacers have cap space, they were able to push Turner's salary from $18 million to $35 million for this season. From there, Indiana added two years to the deal through the 2024-25 season.
This extension should take Turner off the trade market ahead of next month's trade deadline. In addition, the renegotiation will bring Indiana over the salary floor for this season. The Pacers will still have roughly $10 million in cap space to work with before the February 9 trade deadline.
The Portland Trail Blazers have offered Jerami Grant a four-year, $112 million extension, sources tell Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
Grant has not accepted the offer as the Blazers can sign offer a five-year contract worth more money when he becomes a free agent.
Grant can sign for up to $233 million over five years, though the upper range of that contract appears unrealistic.
Grant is interested in signing with the Blazers long-term.
The market for Kyrie Irving should he become a free agent this offseason is uncertain. Irving is interested in an extension with the Brooklyn Nets, according to his agent Shetellia Irving.
The Nets made an offer to Irving last offseason but were unable to agree to terms. Irving also sought out other offers via sign-and-trade, but nothing materialized.
In Chris Haynes report last week, he indicated Irving "is expected to have ample interest from around the league."
ESPN's Brian Windhorst is skeptical of Irving's market.
"Chris implied that there would be a number of teams interested in him if he became an unrestricted free agent this summer," said Windhorst on his podcast. "That's where this conversation has I think a diversion. I'm not sure how many teams would be interested in him this summer...
"I also don't think there are going to be a ton of suitors who have cap space."
The Los Angeles Lakers were the team most strongly linked to Irving last offseason, but they recently made a trade for Rui Hachimura that signals they don't plan on creating the most cap space possible and may elect to stay over the cap.
Kyrie Irving is seeking a contract extension with the Brooklyn Nets, but his agent tells Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report that discussions have yet to commence.
Irving is in the final season of his current deal and would become an unrestricted free agent this offseason if an extension isn't reached.
"Around Kyrie and staying with the Nets? I have reached out to the Nets regarding this," his agent Shetellia Irving told Bleacher Report. "We have had no significant conversations to date. The desire is to make Brooklyn home, with the right type of extension, which means the ball is in the Nets' court to communicate now if their desire is the same."
Irving is eligible for a max extension of four years and roughly $200 million.
Fred VanVleet has parted ways with his agent Brian Jungreis of Par-Lay Sports.
Jungreis also represents Malik Beasley.
VanVleet has a $22.8 million player option with the Toronto Raptors that he is expected to decline.
VanVleet has yet to select a new agent.
Teams around the league are monitoring Richaun Holmes as a potential buyout candidate, sources told Marc Stein of Substack.
Holmes could get bought out if the Kings aren't able to trade him by the deadline.
Holmes is averaging 3.3 points and 2.2 rebounds in 9.4 minutes this season.
The Washington Wizards plan to re-sign both Kyle Kuzma and Kristaps Porzingis this offseason, sources told Marc Stein of Substack.
The trade of Rui Hachimura was a step to clear cap space for both players.
Kuzma and Porzingis both are likely to decline their player options for next season and become free agents this summer.
The team is increasingly confident of being able to re-sign Kuzma.
Stein adds that Porzingis currently likes his situation with the Wizards.
Jakob Poeltl is reportedly looking to receive $20 million per season in his next contract, sources told Marc Stein of Substack.
Poeltl is currently in the final year of a three-year, $26 million deal.
The Spurs are looking to hold onto Poeltl, who has been the target of trade rumors this season.
A year ago, the Charlotte Hornets looked to be set at the forward position. A year later, it's a position in flux for Charlotte.
Both of this season's starters, P.J. Washington and Jalen McDaniels, will be free agents this summer. And Miles Bridges remains unsigned after domestic violence charges last summer.
With McDaniels an unrestricted free agent and Bridges' status still up in the air, Charlotte has rising interest in re-signing Washington. The fourth-year forward has started and played in 46 of the Hornets 47 games this season.
Washington has averaged a career-high 15.4 points per game, while maintaining solid shooting percentages. Charlotte can make Washington a restricted free agent this summer, by tendering him a $7.99 million qualifying offer.
