Peja Feels Bad For Injuries

Apr 23, 2007 12:19 PM

Peja Stojakovic said he plans to continue his daily morning runs and workouts in the gym for the entire offseason. In the meantime, he will continue to go through his rehabilitation work monitored by the Hornets' training staff in Oklahoma City until May 12 before leaving for his offseason home in Greece.

"My back is getting better, and I'm dying to get back on the court. I'm not going to have any day where I'm not doing anything," Stojakovic said. "I always have to be in some kind of shape. I'm running and lifting three times a week.

"I feel bad because I was brought here to help make us a better team," said Stojakovic.

"I have to prove to myself that I can step on the court and become the player that I was before. I've talked to some of the guys who had similar surgery that I had, and they came back. It's going to be up to me."

"I know he's disappointed about this season because of something he couldn't help with the injury," Hornets Coach Byron Scott said. "But getting ready for next season can be helped, and I'm going to check on him like I always do. I know Peja is going to work his tail off."

Mason Will Undergo Surgery To Repair Septum

Apr 13, 2007 6:59 PM

The New Orleans Hornets announced Friday that injured forward Desmond Mason will have surgery to repair a deviated septum.

Mason will miss the remainder of the regular season thanks to the surgery. Should the Hornets make the playoffs, the team will re-evaluate his status, according to reports from the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Going into Friday's game against Phoenix, the Hornets were a game out of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

"It's unfortunate that we will not have Desmond for the remainder of our regular season games, but our focus continues to be making the playoffs," Hornets General Manager Jeff Bower said, according to the Times-Picayune. "If we accomplish that goal, we are hopeful that he would be able to re-join us and provide us with the same leadership and tenacity that made him such a valuable part of our team this season."

Hornets' Mason Has Broken Nose, Cheek Bone

Apr 6, 2007 5:09 AM

New Orleans Hornets forward Desmond Mason could miss the remainder of the season after breaking his nose and cheek bone, Hornets general manager Jeff Bower said Thursday.

Mason, the only Hornets player to start every game this season, took an elbow to the face from Seattle's Chris Wilcox during the Hornets' 102-93 win against the SuperSonics on Wednesday night. A CT scan taken at a hospital revealed the breaks, the Hornets said.

"Desmond has been a true warrior and leader for us this season, and has fought through various injuries and ailments to be the only Hornet to (start) in every game," Bower said. "But these injuries to his face will force him out of action for at least the next few games and possibly the remainder of the season."

The Hornets said Mason's cheek would not require surgery, and a decision on whether he'd need an operation on his nose would be made in the next two days.

?We assigned Marcus to the D-League with the intention of getting him some quality game experience to further his development,? said Hornets General Manager Jeff Bower. ?He has shown great strides during his time in Tulsa and, with our recent string of injuries, the time was right to bring him back to the Hornets? lineup.?

Vinicius was previously assigned to Tulsa on Jan. 9, but was recalled six days later after suffering a strained right Achilles? tendon in his first game with the 66ers (Jan. 12 vs. Dakota).  After being recalled and rehabbing his injury with the Hornets, Vinicius was re-assigned to Tulsa on March 1.

Hornets Lose Starters Chandler, Mason To Injuries

Apr 4, 2007 10:33 PM

Starters Tyson Chandler and Desmond Mason left the New Orleans Hornets' game against Seattle on Wednesday night after sustaining injuries in the first half.

Chandler, who is 2nd in the league in rebounds with a 12.5 per game average, aggravated his bruised right big toe with 4:34 remaining in the first quarter and was not expected to return. He walked gingerly to the locker room without assistance and returned to the bench in the second quarter.

Mason then got elbowed in the right cheek by Seattle's Chris Wilcox after Wilcox made a layup midway through the second quarter. He was slow to rise from the court and held a towel to his face as he walked to the locker room with 4:38 left before halftime. Team spokesman Scott Hall said Mason was being taken to a hospital to undergo a CT scan on his right eye.

On the same play, Wilcox sprained his left ankle. He also missed the rest of the game.
