Kyrie Irving 'Focused On Getting To Lakers'

Jun 30, 2022 7:52 PM

Kyrie Irving "is focused on getting to the Lakers," reports Brian Windhorst.

The Brooklyn Nets will have a limited set of teams interested in trading for Irving given his status on an expiring $36.5 million contract.

The Lakers are also motivated to convert Russell Westbrook into a more productive roster.

Lakers Would Be Interested In Trading For Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving In Package Deal

Jun 30, 2022 5:44 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers would have interest in acquiring Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in a package deal, league executives have floated to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

The Lakers have had prior interest in acquiring Kyrie Irving this offseason.

In order to acquire Durant and Irving, the Lakers would have to build a package around Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook and future draft picks.

While Westbrook is on an expiring contract, he is widely viewed as a negative asset.

The Nets almost certainly could receive a more competitive offer from another team, though Davis would give them a top-10 talent.

Kyrie Irving 'Fully Supportive' Of Kevin Durant's Trade Request From Nets

Jun 30, 2022 5:34 PM

Kyrie Irving is "fully supportive" of Kevin Durant's decision to seek a trade from the Brooklyn Nets.

Irving decided top opt into his $36.5 million contract with the Nets this week, but he knew that Durant requesting a trade was a possibility.

The Nets and Irving were close on a new contract, which would have also stabilized their relationship with Durant.

Irving and Durant chose to sign with the Nets as a tandem in 2019.

Nets Will Only Trade Kevin Durant To Suns If Devin Booker Included

Jun 30, 2022 4:48 PM

The Brooklyn Nets are prepared to hold firm on a return of Devin Booker if they trade Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns, sources tell Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer.

The Suns will likely hold the line on not including Booker in a package for Durant.

The early indications are that the Nets are not inclined to take a sign-and-trade of Deandre Ayton.

The Nets would have to trade Ben Simmons before acquiring Booker, or Bam Adebayo from the Miami Heat, due to the limit of only having one designed rookie-scale contract players on the roster acquired by trade.

The Suns have been widely expected to sign Booker to a supermax extension this offseason.

Kevin Durant Lists Suns, Heat As Preferred Trade Destinations

Jun 30, 2022 2:58 PM

Kevin Durant has listed the Phoenix Suns and the Miami Heat as his preferred trade destinations.

The Suns could put together a package of proven players and draft picks. Deandre Ayton could go the Nets in a sign-and-trade as part of a Durant package.

The Heat could similarly trade a young player like Tyler Herro along with draft pick compensation.

Nets Acquire Royce O'Neale From Jazz For 2023 First Round Pick

Jun 30, 2022 2:55 PM

The Brooklyn Nets have agreed to acquire Royce O'Neale from the Utah Jazz for a 2023 first round pick, which will be the lesser of their own, Houston or Philadelphia's.

The Nets have been linked to O'Neale while the Jazz are working to reshape their roster.

Brooklyn will use the $11.3 million trade exception from the James Harden trade. O'Neale has $9.2 million and $9.5 million remaining on his contract.

Hawks Were Preparing Offer To Nets For Kevin Durant Before Dejounte Murray Trade

Jun 30, 2022 8:46 AM

The Atlanta Hawks were closely monitoring the Kevin Durant situation with the Brooklyn Nets before they executed a trade for Dejounte Murray, sources tell Chris Kirschner and Sam Amick of The Athletic.

Like many other teams around the NBA, the Hawks were seriously preparing for the possibility that Durant might ask for a trade if Kyrie Irving would have left in free agency. When Irving decided to opt in for his $36.5 million contract for 22-23, the Hawks were able to move forward with the Murray trade.

With the Hawks sending out multiple future first round picks to the Spurs for Murray, their ability to make a trade for the star like Durant now becomes a practical impossibility.

Hawks Acquire Dejounte Murray From Spurs For Danilo Gallinari, Three First Round Picks

Jun 29, 2022 5:28 PM

The Atlanta Hawks have agreed to acquire guard Dejounte Murray from the San Antonio Spurs for Danilo Gallinari, three future first round picks and a future first round pick swap.

Atlanta will pair Murray with All-NBA player Trae Young in a dual-point guard backcourt. Murray has two seasons and $34.3 million left on his contract.

The Spurs will reportedly acquire a protected 2023 first round pick from the Charlotte Hornets via the Hawks. They will also acquire the Hawks first round picks in 2025 and 2027, as well as the right to swap picks in 2026. Gallinari is in the trade to provide salary-matching and he may be waived by San Antonio.

Deandre Ayton, Suns Mutually Prefer Sign-And-Trade Resolution, Multiple Teams To Offer Max

Jun 29, 2022 3:07 PM

The Phoenix Suns are prepared to engage in sign-and-trade scenarios on Deandre Ayton when the offseason officially begins on the evening of June 30th. The Suns have reached the resolution that they don't value Ayton on a max contract.

"I think what Phoenix and Deandre Ayton would prefer is the Suns would get some assets from a team whether it's draft picks or players or cap space," said Adrian Wojnarowski. "And Deandre Ayton gets his max contract elsewhere. That can all start moving tomorrow at 6 PM Eastern. I think there's several landing spots for Deandre Ayton on a max contract and those conversations can commence.

"I thin it's more increasingly likely Deandre Ayton is elsewhere in the NBA on a sign-and-trade deal. We'll know more as that market starts developing tomorrow night."

Ayton is represented by Bill Duffy and Nima Namakian and was the first overall pick in the 2018 draft.

Nets Didn't Want Status Quo Resolution With Kyrie Irving

Jun 29, 2022 2:48 PM

While Kyrie Irving has opted into his $36.5 million contract with the Brooklyn Nets, Brian Windhorst says the situation is not necessarily resolved. Windhorst opines that the Nets and Los Angeles Lakers could revisit discussions with Brooklyn thinking they could operate better without Irving this season.

"When Kyrie announced he was opting in, I was like 'okay, we can move on. This won't be a thing,' said Windhorst.

"But that's not what my phone was telling me. That's not what the executives were telling me. That's not what the agents were telling me. They are saying this ain't over, because the Nets made it clear to everybody they did not want the status quo. If nothing else changed, they were not going to be happy. They were not sure if that this satisfied that situation.

"It was not just because of the lack of the vaccine mandate. The entire way that Kyrie operated for the last couple of seasons, not just what happened with the vaccine, was part of what Sean Marks, and really by proxy Joe Tsai, was talking about at the end of the season.

"I would like to say this can be put to bed, but that's not what my sources are saying. They don't know if this is going to work."

Windhorst also said that part of the reason why the Nets have grown frustrated with Irving is due to how he treated teammates.

"It wasn't just about the vaccine mandate," said Windhorst. "It was about Kyrie Irving treated his teammates. About the way Kyrie Irving treated his coaches.

"So part of this renegotiation wasn't just going to be about a contract extension. It was going to be about a renegotiation of how the team operated."
