Draymond Green Endorsed Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody Picks Before Warriors Were On Clock

Jul 30, 2021 11:16 AM

Draymond Green has often taken an active role in the Golden State Warriors' draft preparations and offered Bob Myers early endorsements of the two players the team ultimately would select on Thursday. The Warriors selected Jonathan Kuminga at No. 7 and Moses Moody at No. 4.

“He texted me after the third or fourth pick and said, ‘Kuminga,'” Myers shared during his post-draft news conference. “And I said, ‘We’ll see if he’s there.'”

Green texted Myers from Tokyo again a few minutes later.

“At about the ninth pick he said ‘Moody,'” Myers said.

“And I said, ‘I don’t think he’s going to be there.'”

The Warriors now plan on adding more veterans via free agency.

Grizzlies, Kings Were Close To Jonas Valanciunas Trade

Jul 30, 2021 8:23 AM

Before eventually agreeing to a trade with the New Orleans Pelicans ahead of the draft, the Memphis Grizzlies were in serious talks with the Sacramento Kings on a similar deal, according to Brian Windhorst on The Hoop Collective Podcast.

The Grizzlies would have sent Jonas Valanciunas to the Kings for the No. 9 pick in the draft and Marvin Begley Jr.

Memphis instead traded up with the Pelicans at No. 10 while also taking back Steven Adams and Eric Bledsoe. New Orleans acquired Valanciunas as part of the deal.

Sacramento used the No. 9 pick on Davion Mitchell.

Cavaliers Would Only Trade Out Of No. 3 For 'Godfather' Offer

Jul 29, 2021 2:01 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers have received significant interest from teams trading for the third overall pick and while the team is listening to offers, sources tell the Cleveland Plain Dealer that it would take a "Godfather" offer to move out of the slot.

Cade Cunningham is expected to go first to the Detroit Pistons, followed by Jalen Green to the Houston Rockets, which will make Mobley available to Cleveland.

The Toronto Raptors, Orlando Magic and Oklahoma City are motivated to move up to No. 3 from slots No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 respectively.

The Cavaliers do have interest in adding a second pick in the top-10, though that would likely cost them Collin Sexton, Larry Nance Jr. or a 2022 first rounder.

Pistons Decide To Select Cade Cunningham First Overall

Jul 29, 2021 1:46 PM

The Detroit Pistons have decided to select Cade Cunningham with the first overall pick in Thursday's draft.

The Pistons also considered Jalen Green and Evan Mobley as well as various draft offers.

The Houston Rockets will select second followed by the Cleveland Cavaliers at No. 3.

Cunningham has widely been considered the best prospect in the draft though there isn't a definitive consensus with some believing the draft has three players who would be a No. 1 caliber pick in most years.

The Pistons met with Cunningham a final time on Wednesday to finalize their decision. While trade offers continue to be made, the Pistons intend to select Cunningham if they keep the pick for themselves.
