Bobcats Felton And Wallace Questionable

Nov 30, 2006 5:20 PM

The Charlotte Bobcats could be without starters Raymond Felton and Gerald Wallace for Friday night's road game against the Washington Wizards.

Wallace and Felton sat out most of practice Thursday at the Wizards' practice court inside the Verizon Center. Wallace suffered a left hip-pointer in Wednesday's loss to the Atlanta Hawks. Felton felt back spasms Thursday while going up for a shot early in practice.

The Bobcats will re-assess Wallace's and Felton's injuries at shootaround Friday morning.

Nets Coach: Team Lacks Hunger

Nov 29, 2006 9:18 AM

The Bobcats got any shot they wanted in the first half and held on to hand the Nets their sixth-straight loss, a 96-92 defeat Tuesday night at Continental Arena that left Nets coach Lawrence Frank disgusted, puzzled and in an overall sour mood.

"We just put up no resistance on the defensive end in the first half," Frank said. "I don't know what to say right now.

"I would think we want to be hungry for a win. I guess right now we haven't bought into what it's going to take for us to win. We do it for a half."

Anderson Signs With Charlotte

Nov 28, 2006 1:41 PM

Derek Anderson joined his seventh team on Tuesday by signing with the Charlotte Bobcats.

"This was a better situation than the other offers I had,'' Anderson said. "I wanted to find the best fit for me. It's a matter of using my skills to help the team out.''

"That versatility was definitely a factor so he can spell the guys at the point and also do some scoring,'' Bobcats coach and general manager Bernie Bickerstaff said. "He can take some pressure off our young wings.''

Bobcats Waive Alan Anderson

Nov 27, 2006 1:34 PM

The Charlotte Bobcats waived guard Alan Anderson Monday, and apparently intend to sign a veteran sometime in the next few days.

"We did it to clip a roster spot," coach-general manager Bernie Bickerstaff told the Observer. "There's not a trade involved, but at some point we will replace the roster spot with a veteran player."

Bickerstaff would not say who the Bobcats are pursuing or at what position they seek help.

Knight Not Too Keen On Miami Trade Rumors

Nov 26, 2006 8:10 PM

The Heat are looking for a veteran point guard and Brevin Knight fits the bill, but wasn't interested in discussing it on Saturday.  The Bobcats received interest in Knight last season and left the decision to him and he decided to remain in Charlotte.

"I wouldn't even answer that at this point," he said. "I'm happy being here. We'll cross those bridges when they come. At this point I'm fine. That bridge is not here."

Charlotte Sends Hollins To D-League

Nov 22, 2006 6:14 PM

The Charlotte Bobcats have assigned rookie center Ryan Hollins to their NBA Development League affiliate Fort Worth Flyers.

The 7-0, 230-pound center is the first NBA player to be assigned to a D-League team this season and the first Bobcats player designated to the D-League. Twenty-nine (29) NBA players were assigned to D-League affiliates in 2005-06.

Hollins was drafted by Charlotte with the 50th overall selection in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft and has not appeared in a regular season game with the Bobcats this season.

?Ryan is a terrific athlete who needs a chance to play and develop,? Bobcats General Manager and Head Coach Bernie Bickerstaff said.  ?Getting game experience is critical for Ryan and sending him to Fort Worth will provide him that opportunity.?

Stern's Silencing Of Cuban Draws Questions

Nov 19, 2006 10:12 AM

The muzzling of Mark Cuban by the NBA did not go over unanimously at the recent Board of Governors meeting.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Bobcats owner Bob Johnson asked David Stern if such draconian measures - giving the Commish the power to suspend any owner who disparages the league publicly - were in everyone's best interests. And shouldn't this be handled by a committee of owners instead of by Stern alone?

Then, according to two sources, when Johnson further suggested that this was a personal matter between Cuban and Stern that the two of them should settle, Stern went ballistic, telling Johnson that this was a league matter, not an individual one, and that the value of investments such as Johnson's $300 million to get the Charlotte expansion franchise were hurt when Cuban constantly belittled the on-court product.

In the end, Stern got his way. And Cuban may have gotten off lightly. The Inquirer is reporting that some hard-line owners were proposing fines up to $5 million per pop-off - which would dwarf the $1.45 million Cuban's been hit with so far for various verbal indiscretions.

Brezec Says He Will Skip European Tournament

Nov 12, 2006 8:52 PM

Charlotte center Primoz Brezec said Sunday that sitting out the Bobcats' first six games has taught him a lesson: He plays too much basketball.

Brezec, worn down after a summer playing with the Slovenian national team, caught a virus at the start of training camp. He lost 15 pounds and was so weary doctors told him to sit out at least the first two weeks of the season.

Brezec said he won't play for the Slovenian national team in next year's European championships.

"That's what I do every summer, and obviously the last two years wore me down a little bit," Brezec said. "I'm going to have to consider not playing anymore for my national team. Next year I'm going to skip the European championships."
