Jackson: Lakers Miss Radmanovic

Mar 31, 2009 4:53 PM

The Lakers traded Vladimir Radmanovic to the Bobcats last month for Adam Morrison and Shannon Brown, a move that saved the team about $17 million.

Radmanovic was often knocked because of his inconsistency, but Los Angeles coach Phil Jackson says that the team misses him.

"He's a qualified player. He can do things, he's going to have an impact on ballgames," Jackson said. "We miss him, there's no doubt about it. But that's it -- water under the bridge, you move on."

Bynum Nearing Return

Mar 30, 2009 9:13 PM

Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum could return as early as Sunday to play the Los Angeles Clippers.

Bynum has been sidelined with a partial tear in his right MCL.  He injured his knee in a game against the Memphis Grizzlies on January 31st.

According to his website, AndrewBynum.com, Bynum has been "playing 2 on 2 and 3 on 3."  He hopes to get in a full practice on Saturday and scrimmage 5 on 5.

If the knee responds accordingly, Bynum would be inserted into the lineup for Sunday's game against the Clippers.  If not, he should be out no later than  the Memphis game on the 12th.

Bynum missed the end of last year's season due to an injury on his right kneecap.  Many speculated that his current injury would prevent him from playing in this year's postseason as well.

Hawks-Lakers Set Philips Arena Attendance Record

Mar 29, 2009 6:54 PM

Sunday's Hawks vs. Lakers matchup at Philips Arena drew the highest single-game crowd for a Hawks game in Philips Arena's nearly 10-year history (20,148).

Following are the top three regular season Hawks marks at Philips Arena:

20,148 vs. Los Angeles Lakers (3/29/09)
20,098 vs. Boston (4/12/08)
20,073 vs. Washington (11/1/01)

Sunday was also the club's 11th sellout this season, extending the total for the most the Hawks have recorded in a single season at Philips Arena, topping the eight from each of the last two seasons.

The Philips Arena mark for any Hawks game (including playoffs) is the 20,425 attracted for last year's First Round playoff game 6 contest against Boston (5/2/08).

The Hawks own the NBA record for the highest single-game attendance, when 62,046 fans packed the Georgia Dome for a 3/27/98 meeting with the Bulls.

Kobe Hurts Ankle, Returns To Help Lakers Clinch No. 1 Seed

Mar 28, 2009 10:32 AM

Kobe Bryant sprained his ankle late in the second quarter against the Nets on Friday night, but returned in the third and helped the Lakers clinch the top seed in the West.

Pau Gasol led with 36 points and 11 rebounds as Los Angeles defeated New Jersey 103-95, pushing their record to 58-14.

"It was just burning, a lot of burning," Bryant said of the ankle. "I didn't roll it or anything like that. A guy just landed on it, jammed it. It's more a tendon than anything. Just trying to get the tendon to calm down, trying to let it not swell up too much."

The Lakers have now assured themselves home court advantage throughout the Western Conference playoffs.

"We're fortunate," coach Phil Jackson said. "We didn't have a whole lot of injuries outside of Andrew [Bynum] this year that limited us. We had some momentum and kept it this year."

Former Housekeeper Sues Kobe And His Wife

Mar 25, 2009 7:19 PM

Kobe Bryant and his wife are being sued by their former housekeeper, contending she was "harassed and humiliated," denied health insurance and forced to quit because of "intolerable" working conditions.

In one instance, Maria Jimenez says Bryant's wife ordered her to put her hand in a container of dog waste to retrieve the price tag of a blouse.

Jimenez filed suit Friday in Orange County Superior Court. She says in court papers that Vanessa Bryant "badgered, harassed and humiliated" her in front of Bryant, the couple's children and others. She said the couple failed to provide health coverage, as promised when she was hired. She said she didn't learn she didn't have it until she became ill and sought medical attention.

Hollins: Kobe Doesn't Trust His Teammates

Mar 25, 2009 4:15 PM

Mavericks center Ryan Hollins made an appearance on Michael Irvin's ESPN radio show on Tuesday and said that he doesn't believe Kobe Bryant trusts his teammates.

"Kobe Bryant is one of the greatest players in the game, and I think sometimes he has issues trusting his teammates," said Hollins. "Maybe we catch them off guard, kind of get Kobe into playing a little one-on-one or doing a little too much, I think we've got a shot at them definitely."

Phil Jackson Criticizes Thunder Fans

Mar 24, 2009 4:18 PM

Lakers coach Phil Jackson believes that fans in Oklahoma City still have some learning to do when it comes to the NBA game.

"They haven't quite figured out the NBA game, the length of it," Jackson said. "They get all fired up in the beginning, and it's a marathon. It's 48 minutes of basketball. It's not like college, where you can come out and get a 10-point lead or 15-point lead and you can win the game."

Lakers' Jackson Wants To Quit, But Won't

Mar 24, 2009 3:55 PM

Lakers coach Phil Jackson has one year left on his contract, and plans to return next season even though he'd like to quit.

"I'd like to quit at the end of this year," Jackson said. "But you know I won't do it.

"This time of the season, when you're traveling, it's weary, you're like, 'Can I do this another year?' But by the end of July, I'll be ready to go back and coach basketball."

Jackson, 63, can't wait to relax.

"I'd like to be hunting and fly fishing and hiking, but physically, I can't do that anymore," Jackson said. "I also like traveling, but that's also a strain.

"This (coaching) has become part of my retirement life and my middle-aged life... I'll probably write books a little bit. Mentoring."
