Deron Williams Open To Playing For Team USA At World Cup

Sep 10, 2012 11:49 PM

Deron Williams is interested in playing for Team USA at the 2014 World Cup.

''I'll be 32, so I'm not going to be too old,'' Williams said. ''(Jason) Kidd was 36 the last time we did it, so I could play two more essentially. But we'll see, we'll see what happens. Four years is a long ways off.''

Williams initially planned to play for the U.S. at the 2010 Worlds, a less glamorous event that basketball officials are attempting to strengthen.

''They're starting to try to put emphasis on it and make it more important,'' Williams said. ''It's definitely important. I think the world championship is great. It's not the Olympics, but it is a big deal.''

Johnson: Nets Not Yet Championship-Ready

Sep 5, 2012 9:23 AM

Avery Johnson believes that despite the addition of Joe Johnson and the scheduled return of Deron Williams, Gerald Wallace, Brook Lopez and Kris Humphries, the Nets aren't championship-ready just yet.

"We're not there yet, we're not a championship team," Johnson said. "We've got a lot of work to do, but at the same time we have a much better talent pool than we've had in the last two years."

Johnson said he and Billy King were never overly concerned that Williams would sign elsewhere.

"We felt we were going to be able to re-sign Deron," Johnson said. "We felt it was like 80-90 percent, but it was the 10 percent that you were worried about.

"That was the whole key. But I'm glad that's all behind us now and we can move forward and we can have a team that we're hoping is going to be pretty competitive when we get it on the floor."

“I like Brooklyn a lot,” Deron Williams said, before adding: “We practice in Jersey. In Manhattan, I’m in between both.”
