Nets Showing Interest In Big Baby

Jul 28, 2009 3:47 PM

The Nets have shown interest in restricted free-agent Glen Davis, but rumors of a sign-and-trade between New Jersey and Boston appear to be premature.

There were reports on Monday that the Nets could land Davis in a sign-and-trade with the Celtics involving forward Yi Jianlian.

Officials from both clubs denied such a deal, and a source claimed that New Jersey inquired about Davis "to see what's up and what they're looking for."

Warrick, Davis On New Jersey's Radar

Jul 26, 2009 9:25 AM

The Nets are looking for a power forward and have inquired about Glen Davis and Hakim Warrick.

The New York Post characterized their inquiries with both players as "strong."

Warrick surprisingly hit the free-agent market last week when the Grizzlies renounced their $3 million qualifying offer to the forward.

Davis is a restricted free agent of the Celtics and has drawn interest from several teams.

Brian Hill Going To Detroit As Assistant

Jul 25, 2009 10:10 AM

Nets assistant coach Brian Hill is leaving the team for a position with the Pistons, according to reports.

The Star-Ledger in New Jersey reported on Friday that Hill informed the Nets of his decision.

"The toughest part is leaving Lawrence and Rod, who have been so good to me over the years, and I love the guys - we have a great group of kids to work with," Hill told the Star-Ledger.

"So it's a tough decision, but for my own future -- and to help John (Kuester), who I know and respect - I've accepted the position. John's putting together a good staff, and hopefully we have a good enough group to be a playoff team."

Sources: Ratner Looking To Sell Nets

Jul 24, 2009 8:16 AM

The New York Post has learned that Nets owner Bruce Ratner is actively looking to selling the team.

Ratner is looking into the feasibility of selling the Nets, even though the club's value is considerably lower in the current economic market.

"I know definitely he has been thinking about doing it [selling]," one source said. "But now is not the time. And if he sells, what about the building? Does he sell just the team? Then you're in New Jersey for a couple years losing a ton of money."

There have even been "preliminary discussions" with some investors that are viewed as potential buyers, sources added.

"After this year, the Nets will have one of, if not the, lowest payroll in the league, which could make them attractive," said another source. "That they're trying to sell is not even an issue any more."

Sources: Nets Express Interest In Big Baby

Jul 21, 2009 9:16 AM

The Nets are among the teams that have expressed interest in Celtics restricted free-agent forward Glen Davis, according to league sources.

New Jersey has their $5.8 million mid-level exception to spend as they search for a power forward on the free-agent market.

They are also interested in Lamar Odom and Drew Gooden, as well as acquiring Carlos Boozer in a trade with the Jazz.

Davis has also received interest from the Pistons, Hornets and Trail Blazers. The Celtics have said that they would match a reasonable offer for the young forward.

Nets Could Lose Multiple Assistants

Jul 19, 2009 8:46 AM

The Nets could soon be short on a number of assistant coaches.

The New York Post is reporting that assistant Brian Hill is meeting with the Pistons about a job, and Roy Rogers might leave New Jersey to join the Rutgers staff.

Coaching associate Jim Sann has also left the staff.

That would leave just Doug Overton and Tom Barrise as coach Lawrence Frank's assistants.

The Jazz have continued to talk to teams about forward Carlos Boozer, who they are expected to trade after retaining Paul Millsap.

According to the Deseret News, Chicago, Miami, New York, Detroit and New Jersey appear to be the most mentioned destinations for Boozer.

Reports out of Miami on Friday indicated that the Heat may not be as interested in Boozer as some sources claim.

Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor said on Friday that a trade involving Boozer wasn't imminent.

Brooklyn Arena On Shaky Ground

Jul 9, 2009 7:12 AM

Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries is disillusioned about the "Atlantic Yards" project, which would include the building of a new Brooklyn arena for the Nets.  Development will take more time, cost more money and look different than the original plan.

"The way in which the project was sold is dramatically different than the one in which the developer appears prepared to deliver," Jeffries said. "The promises made by this developer have disappeared like a house of cards."

The original price tag was $3.9 billion but cost is now estimated at $4.9 billion, even after the elaborate design of famed architect Frank Gehry was dropped.

Nonetheless, owner Bruce Ratner has stated that he is determined to break ground on construction this year with the goal of opening the Nets' new Brooklyn home by 2012.
