Derrick Rose Nervous For First Camp

Sep 30, 2008 9:58 AM

Rookie Derrick Rose is nervous heading into his first training camp with the Chicago Bulls.

"I'm worried a little bit," Rose said. "But I know with the guys on my team that everybody will help me. They just want to win."

"I don't know what's going to happen. But all I hear is it's going to be hard. At Memphis, our training camp was hard. If it's harder than that, that would be unbelievable."

Rose, the first overall pick in June's NBA Draft, also said that his right knee tendinitis is coming along well.

"It's fine, coming along nicely," Rose added. "I've been working on it and putting stimulation on it every night. I'm not worried about it at all for the season."

Bulls' Gordon At Media Day, Eyes Contract Options

Sep 30, 2008 6:36 AM

Ben Gordon was at hand for the Bulls' media day on Monday despite not having a contract, but he hopes that his situation can be resolved by mid-week, the Associated Press is reporting.

Gordon will not practice until after Wednesday, which is the deadline for him to sign the qualifying offer.

"I thought [a deal] would be done by now," said Gordon, Chicago's leading scorer last season with an 18.6-point average. "I'm disappointed that it lasted all the way into training camp."

"We're still seeing if there's a way to come to some resolution," GM John Paxson said. "As I said the other day, we have anticipated that Ben would sign the qualifying offer. ... One way or another, it's pretty obvious that Ben's going to be a part of this team this year."

Gordon said he would be on hand when two-a-day practice sessions begin Tuesday.

"I'll be here watching, but I'm going to wait [to practice] until my decision on Wednesday," he said.

Gordon Set To Take Qualifying Offer

Sep 28, 2008 11:01 PM

It looks as though Ben Gordon will be a member of the Chicago Bulls in 2008-2009 after all.

Gordon confirmed in a text message to the Chicago Tribune's K.C. Johnson that he will be in training camp, and he is expected to sign a one year qualifying offer worth $6.4 million by Wednesday's deadline and become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

For the second straight summer Gordon and the Chicago Bulls have been unable to come to an agreement on a long term contract for the team's leading scorer and sixth man.

Former Bull Mike Ruffin is also expected to be in camp for Chicago on a non-guaranteed contract, according to the report.

Gordon's Deadline Draws Near

Sep 28, 2008 5:38 AM

Bulls GM John Paxson ''anticipates'' that Ben Gordon will be in training camp with the team, but says that the qualifying offer is only on the table until Wednesday, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

The Bulls and Gordon have been unable to agree on a contract, no sign and trades appear imminent, and despite flurting with the idea earlier in the summer Europe no longer appears to be an option for Chicago's leading scorer.

''That's not an option because I would still be a restricted free agent [with the Bulls upon return to the NBA],'' Gordon said. ''Other than that, I'm not ruling anything out.''

''There is some time out there for us, but the reality is we've just been so far apart for so long,'' Paxson said. ''We believe we're closer to what the market is in the league. But anything can happen when there is a deadline and all that. The qualifying offer stands until Wednesday.''

Paxson Believes Gordon Will Accept Qualifying Offer

Sep 27, 2008 7:49 PM

Bulls GM John Paxson believes that the stalemate with Ben Gordon will end with the team's leading scoring accepting the one year qualifying offer, the Daily Herald is reporting.

The move would allow Gordon, who is currently a restricted free agent, to play out 2009-2010 in Chicago and then become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, leaving him free to go wherever he wanted.  It also means that he would not be able to be traded this season without his prior consent.

Gordon and the Bulls have been at odds all summer over a new contract, as well as last summer for a contract extension, with Chicago believed to be offering a six year, $59 million contract for the team's sixth man.

"We've been so far apart for two summers, and the qualifying offer is a good one-year deal for Ben," Paxson said. "So yes, I do think that is what will happen."

Reinsdorf Expects Gordon To Remain A Bull

Sep 18, 2008 8:21 AM

Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf expects the team to resolve its conflict with restricted free agent guard Ben Gordon and come to an agreement, according to Chicago Sun-Times.

"It has to be resolved," Reinsdorf said Wednesday. "You know, we have a business disagreement relating to the money, but he's still a Chicago Bull, and I expect him to play for the Bulls. I expect him to play hard, and I'd be surprised if it's anything other than that."

Gordon has said that he believes he has played his final game for the Bulls, but Chicago has the right to match any offer he receives. Gordon could also play for the $6.4 million qualifying offer, which would make him an unrestricted free agent next summer.

"I expect Ben Gordon to be playing for the Bulls this year, one way or another," Reinsdorf said. "I don't know if it will be resolved before training camp, but I do expect him to be playing for the Bulls."
