Deron Williams Questioned Whether He Wanted To Keep Playing Basketball

Dec 21, 2015 1:06 PM

Deron Williams' seasons with the Brooklyn Nets were frustrating, shattering his confidence after he was unable to carry the franchise.

Williams agreed to a buyout this past offseason to sign with the Dallas Mavericks for a new start.

"It took a lot out of me, man, those three years. Some of the hardest in my life," Williams told Yahoo Sports of his time in Brooklyn. "Made me question if I even wanted to play basketball when I was done with that contract."

Williams will return to Brooklyn as a visitor for the first time on Wednesday.

"It’s cool. There’s a lot of people, I guess, who aren’t built for New York," Williams told Yahoo. "New York is not for everybody."

Williams has been productive with the Mavericks.

"It’s been great. To be a part of this organization. The team has been great. Being home in Dallas, it’s been great for myself and my family. I'm definitely enjoying it," Williams told Yahoo. "I enjoy playing with these guys. It’s a great group. It reminds me of my teams in Utah the first couple of years where we like being around each other. We do a lot of stuff off the court together. Like a college atmosphere. It’s loose. It’s fun. I have the ball in my hands a lot more. I have a better rhythm here. Those things all contribute to better confidence out there."

Cuban: Mavericks Would Have Traded Up For Porzingis In 'A Heartbeat'

Dec 8, 2015 2:31 PM

Mark Cuban says the Dallas Mavericks would have traded up to select Kristaps Porzingis if possible.

“We would have traded up in a heartbeat to get that kid,’’ Cuban said before the first Porzingis-Nowitzki showdown. “We loved him. Obviously, people are going to compare him to Dirk because that’s what people like to do. When you’re 7-foot-3, those three inches make a difference.

“I’m a Porzingis fan. I’ve got my Russian insults all packaged up to starting screaming at him with my high school Russian. Porzingis is the real deal. He’s got some s–t to him and that’s different.”

Porzingis actually barely speaks Russian as he's fluent in Latvian, English and Spanish.
