Patrick Beverley Keeps In Touch With Chandler Parsons Heading Into Free Agency

May 31, 2015 1:25 AM

Patrick Beverley has been able to already see Chandler Parsons' recruiting first hand as he enters free agency in July.

“I hear from Chandler every day,” Beverley said. “It’s hard, but I try not to think about it. I can’t talk about contracts. It’s going to be a fun summer. I have put myself in a position to be set for life and that’s something that I never thought was possible growing up.”

Beverley will be a restricted free agent, giving the Rockets the ability to match any offer sheet.

“This is the only team in the league — I am very loyal — only team in the league that really took a chance on me,” Beverley said. “At the end of the day, I understand it’s a business.”

Marc Gasol Expected To Receive Free Agency Pitch From Spurs, Lakers, Knicks, Mavs

May 19, 2015 1:42 PM

The San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks all are developing proposals to present to Marc Gasol on July 1, according sources.

Gasol averaged 17.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.6 blocks while shooting 49.4 percent from the field in 81 games this season.

"He's the best player at his position in the league," Grizzlies coach Dave Joerger said. "You make preparations if it goes in a direction you're not happy about. You're not going to lose sleep at night. It's not going to do any good. He's going to do what he's going to do. Not in the next two weeks are we going to send him a big thing of flowers and it's going to change his mind. [By then], the cement is dry.

"We'll make our last, 'Hey, this is what's important to us. What's important to you?' Things of that nature. But I've got to think his mind is 99 percent made up."

Dirk Nowitzki Won't Retire Before 2018

May 11, 2015 11:33 AM

Dirk Nowitzki fully intends to play out the remainder of his contract before retiring.

Nowitzki signed a three-year, $25 million contract last offseason with the Dallas Mavericks.

“No. I definitely want to fulfill my contract," said Nowitzki when asked about retirement. "I signed on for three years last summer and I’m not going to retire after the first year. If I commit to something, I commit to it fully. I’ve got two more years and hopefully make it count, make it good ones. Hopefully deep playoff runs, that’s what we wanted this year. We wanted homecourt advantage to set us up for a nice little run, we just weren’t consistent enough to really get there, so, we’ll see how the next few years play out.”

Nowitzki was also asked if retirement has crossed his mind.

“Some nights, it’s just not fun. Especially in an 82-game season, there’s just some nights where you just feel slow and things hurt a little bit. Still, I love to compete. I love the process of getting to the gym and working out and trying to get better. What’s harder sometimes is to motivate yourself in the summer. The summer workouts, and then go home with (shooting coach) Holger (Geschwindner) for four-five weeks of every day in the morning: lift, run, shoot. That sometimes is hard to get up with because when I’m here, there’s guys to work out with. Like just now, I’ve got Dwight Powell down there, we push each other, I talk a little crap to him and that’s fun. But in Germany, I work out by myself and then Holger comes at the end and we shoot. So that sometimes gets a little hard.”

Raymond Felton Picking Up $3.9M Player Option For 15-16

May 8, 2015 5:04 PM

Dallas Mavericks guard Raymond Felton will file paperwork to exercise his $3.9 million player option for the 2015-16 season, league sources told RealGM.

Picking up the option was the clear choice for Felton, a 10-year NBA veteran.

Felton, 30, scored 11 points in three games during the Mavericks’ first-round series loss to the Houston Rockets.

The fifth overall selection in the 2005 draft, Felton has averaged 12.7 points and 6.3 assists for his career. He has also spent five seasons with Charlotte, three with New York and one each with Portland and Denver.

Chandler Parsons Takes Recruiting Role On Mavs

May 4, 2015 11:44 PM

Chandler Parsons is in the process of becoming a bigger voice for the Dallas Mavericks and will attempt to recruit free agents.

“Shifting into GM mode,” Parsons said.

“I think it’s kind of like a known thing that I’d like to do that. I have a lot of good relationships with a lot of guys. Obviously now with the season just ended, I haven’t talked with them about who or what or whatever, but we’ll take a look here soon. I’ll be in Dallas pretty much all summer, so I’m sure we’ll have those conversations when the time comes.”

Parsons averaged 15.7 points and 4.9 rebounds this season and underwent knee surgery recently.

“I think we have a chance to make some noise next year," Parsons said. "Like I said, this year was a little frustrating, mostly just health wise. So my biggest goal right now is to do whatever I have to do [to rehabilitate his knee], no matter how long that’s going to be.”
