Bynum May Return To Starting Lineup

Apr 28, 2009 10:11 AM

Lakers coach Phil Jackson still isn't happy with the play of Andrew Bynum, but hinted that the young center could return to the starting lineup in the second round.

Jackson took Bynum out of the starting lineup in favor of Lamar Odom midway through the team's first-round series against the Jazz.

"I just didn't think he got comfortable playing tonight," Jackson said, reflecting on Bynum's play Monday night. "He can certainly give us minutes against [Houston or Portland]. I would put him right back in the start of the game."

Bynum's teammates believe that he just needs a little more time to get back into the groove after missing a lot of time with a knee injury.

"He missed 32 games," Odom said. "We just have to get him back into it. We have to push him emotionally and push him physically."

Lakers Have No Preference On Next Opponent

Apr 28, 2009 9:34 AM

After dispatching of the Jazz in five games, the Lakers will face the winner of the Rockets/Blazers series in the second round.

"We really don't have a preference," coach Phil Jackson said. "It's interesting. That's a much more physical series than our series is. Both teams play extremely hard."

Houston currently leads Portland 3-1.

No matter who their opponent is, Jackson would like to see his team player better defense.

"I think we played well offensively," Jackson said of their series with Utah. "We had some real good games. I thought we played spotty defense tonight. We didn't close the door. I told them in the locker room we have to improve as we go forward."

Fisher Wins Restraining Order Against Stalker

Apr 28, 2009 12:31 AM

According to court papers, Derek Fisher obtained a temporary restraining order Monday against a woman who has allegedly stalked him for years and even changed her last name to Fisher.

Symone Fisher has allegedly sent a number of e-mails, messages on social networking sites and letters to the Fisher claiming to be his wife, even though the two have never met.

"Her repeated attempts to contact me, her delusional notions that we are married, her angry and hostile tirades against me, her appearance at my place of work and her recent travels near and around my place of residence are all extremely frightening to me," Derek Fisher wrote.

Kobe Took Control From Spike On Documentary

Apr 27, 2009 4:50 PM

Kobe Bryant reportedly demanded creative control over the documentary "Kobe: Doin' Work" right before director Spike Lee was set to begin taping.

Lee was forced to drive to Bryant's house to save the project, sources told the New York Post.

The director had already flown to Los Angeles, where 30 cameras were in place for the April 13, 2008, Lakers game against the Spurs. Lee worked hard to get permission from Bryant, coach Phil Jackson and the NBA prior to the filming.

"It went so far that Lee had a last-minute plan to substitute Spurs star Tim Duncan for Kobe and make the whole documentary about Duncan," the source told the Post.

Somehow, Lee was able to get Bryant back on board with the project, and many believe he conceded control to Bryant on the film to do so.

"Spike Lee completely yielded," said one insider. "And at the start of the film, when Kobe arrives at the Staples Center and sees Spike with the camera, he gives him a big smile and thumbs up, showing he knows he won the battle."

Lee has refuted the story.

Lakers Don't Want Return Trip To Utah

Apr 27, 2009 9:54 AM

The Lakers, one game away from eliminating the Jazz in five games, would prefer not to make a return trip to Utah later this week.

"I love Utah," Bryant said, "but I'd rather not see it again until next year."

In reality, Los Angeles just doesn't want Utah to feel as though they have any life in the series.

"You don't give them any life, any hope. Set the tone early and control the game," Pau Gasol said. "Make the game yours, and that's what we're going to try to do."

Bynum Irked By Declining Minutes

Apr 26, 2009 11:07 AM

Lakers coach Phil Jackson moved Lamar Odom into the starting lineup on Saturday night in favor of the struggling Andrew Bynum.

Bynum was averaging just 7 points and 3 rebounds through the team's first three games against the Jazz.

He played just four minutes in Game 4, a 108-94 win for Los Angeles. He posted two points, one rebounds and a pair of fouls.

"It didn't bother me that I didn't start," Bynum said afterward. "It bothered me that I didn't play."

Jackson downplayed the move, citing strategy and instinct.

"I just was going to do it by my intuition, which you have to do," Jackson said.

Bynum, however, doesn't believe that he's played enough this postseason to get in rhythm.

"You got to play to get it back," Bynum said. "Over the last three, four games, I think I've only played like a combined 30 minutes. That's not really enough to get your stuff back together."
