The Los Angeles Lakers never reached out to David Griffin before he agreed to run the front office of the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Lakers also haven't reached out to Bob Myers or Jerry West.

The early signs indicate that Rob Pelinka will continue to run the front office of the Lakers.

Pelinka was the longtime agent of Kobe Bryant. Bryant helped facilitate the hiring of Pelinka.

Tyronn Lue impressed the Los Angeles Lakers with his level of preparation during his interview on Wednesday night, according to reports.

Lue showed off potential offensive and defensive sets during his meeting. Lue also reportedly talked to Tom Thibodeau about being his lead assistant, although Thibodeau still wants to be a head coach, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

Wojnarowski added that Lue created an "emotional connection" with Jeanie Buss by discussing what the Lakers meant to him as a player, and his desire to return to the franchise. 

The Phoenix Suns have identified Monty Williams as their top head coaching candidate.

The Suns will interview Williams in Toronto on Friday.

Williams also had a second interview with the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday.

The Suns are on the verge of preempting an offer from the Lakers, which was part of the reason why they fired Igor Kokoskov when they did.

Williams is currently an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Kurt Rambis is taking a more active role with the Los Angeles Lakers. Rambis will sit in on head coaching interviews in the coming days.

Rambis' wife, Linda Rambis, works for the Lakers and is considered one of Jeanie Buss' closest advisors.

Rambis could end up on the Lakers' bench as associate head coach, or become assistant general manager.

LeBron James sold the most individual jerseys, while the Los Angeles Lakers sold the most team jerseys during the NBA regular season. 

James and the Lakers knocked off Steph Curry and the Warriors from their respective slots. Curry and the Warriors had sold the most jerseys in their categories for 3 straight seasons.

James, Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kyrie Irving, and Joel Embiid rounded out the top 5 for individual jerseys.

The Lakers, Warriors, Celtics, Sixers, and Bucks were the most popular team jerseys. 

Ric Bucher reported on the Colin Cowherd show on Wednesday that emails between Rob Pelinka and Jeanie Buss might have led to the sudden resignation of Magic Johnson before the end of the regular season.

“My understanding is that there were some emails that were exchanged between Rob and Jeanie…about Magic and about what Magic was and wasn’t doing," said Bucher. "They were critical emails. And somehow, someway, Jeanie, from what I understand, was CC’ing or blind CC’ing Magic on everything. That was sort of protocol. Standard issue.

"Somehow, the exchange between Rob and Jeanie ended up on that string of the blind CC’s that were going to Magic. So, Magic now is seeing emails from Rob to Jeanie that were critical of what he was doing and maybe most important in all this is that there was no indication that Jeanie was backing Rob up in terms of either going to Magic and letting him know this was going on or going back at Rob and defending Magic. That was not happening and so when he talked about the backstabbing, to me, my understanding that’s what started it. The fact that Jeanie waved goodbye and said ‘Thank you for all that you did’ was that she didn’t necessarily disagree with what Rob was saying.”

The influence of the younger Buss siblings within the Los Angeles Lakers appears to be growing.

Jesse Buss and Joey Buss will be included in the Lakers' interview of Monty Williams this season. Rob Pelinka and Jeanie Buss will lead Williams' second interview with the Lakers.

Jesse Buss is currently director of scouting for the Lakers.

Joey Buss runs the South Bay Lakers.

The young Buss siblings have largely been excluded from basketball operations up to now.

HBO has ordered a pilot for a scripted drama based on Jeff Pearlman's nonfiction book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s. Adam McKay will produce the project and direct the pilot.

"Jeff Pearlman's book and Max Borenstein's script of the story of the Showtime Lakers really knocked me over. Sexism, racism, tragedy, redemption, no-look passes and a giant cultural shift in America... I can’t wait to start filming," McKay said Tuesday in a statement.

McKay has already begun exploring casting options for Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Pat Riley.

Jason Kidd has interviewed for the Los Angeles Lakers' head coaching vacancy.

The Lakers have also interviewed Monty Williams and Tyronn Lue.

Juwan Howard is also scheduled to interview with the Lakers.

Rob Pelinka and Kurt Rambis conducted the interview with Kidd, which lasted for several hours.

The Milwaukee Bucks fired Kidd as head coach during the 17-18 season.

Vlade Divac had no previous knowledge of sexual assault allegations against Luke Walton before the Sacramento Kings hired him as head coach. The Kings are stunned by the allegations against Walton.

The Kings considered other candidates such as Monty Williams and Ettore Messina, but did not interview them as they zeroed in on Walton.

“We are aware of the report and are gathering additional information,” the Kings said in a statement early Monday evening. “We have no further comment at this time.”

The Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors were also unaware of the allegations.
