Eschmeyer signs 6-year, $19 million contract

Aug 26, 2001 11:11 AM

From Dallas News staff reports: Center Evan Eschmeyer visited Dallas on Saturday, staying just long enough to pass a physical and sign a six-year, $19 million contract with the Mavericks.

Eschmeyer had essentially been a Maverick since Aug. 8, when the restricted free agent signed a Mark Cuban offer sheet, but he couldn't officially join his new team until waiting 15 days ? even though New Jersey apparently had no plans to match the Mavericks' offer after signing Todd MacCulloch.

Martin is Ready to Rumble

Aug 21, 2001 12:18 PM

From the New York Times: Kenyon Martin knew his twice-broken right leg had already healed by the middle of the summer. He no longer felt any pain, or any doubt, and during pickup games all he seemed to be seeing was the top of the rim.

"Now I can dunk," the Nets forward said with a grin.

The New York Post reports that Martin can't wait to join Jason Kidd on the floor.

For example, Nets coach Byron Scott predicted last week that Jason Kidd's arrival would mean a six-point jump in Martin's scoring. Informed of his coach's forecast, the power forward had only one thought.

"That's it?" Martin asked yesterday at the NBA Store. "I don't want to get greedy, but I'm hoping for a little more than that. You've just gotta run the floor, and he'll get you the ball."

Dudley's Return to New Jersey Ends

Aug 15, 2001 4:44 PM

As expected, the New Jersey Nets have waived center Chris Dudley, who reportedly had a buyout in his contract for around $3 million. The transaction should move New Jersey back into Tax-free territory.

Rumor had Dudley set to retire, but his mind could change with so many teams seeking backup centers.

Williams' Comeback Flames Out

Aug 9, 2001 1:45 PM

Regardless of what he really wants, Jayson Williams has been forced to give up his comeback thoughts.  Again.  Although Williams is playing well, he still limps when he comes off the court, and he's not prepared to give up $60 million.  "I'm not going to give up $50 or $60 million, whatever it is, to take a chance.  I'm not the smartest man in the world. That's why you hire your accountants and agents and everybody else. You still have people to take care of. I have a lifestyle that I have to maintain."
