Boston is undecided whether it will take Denver's #11 pick in the draft.  Coach Jim O'Brien says, "if it was my call, I would take the Denver pick - absolutely."  But it's not his call, and GM Chris Wallace says it "Could go either way."  Boston has until June 12 to decide whether to take the pick.

Detroit Free Press writer Perry A. Farrell writes: "Pat Williams is the lottery king and Joe Dumars could use his kind of good fortune. The Pistons have just 18 chances in 1,000 of landing the No. 1 pick. Williams has beaten the odds three times -- once with Philadelphia and twice with Orlando."  Meanwhile, Boston will send "Miracle Milt" Palacio to the back room draw for its 11 chances in 1,000.  The Sonics are sending Nate McMillan and his lucky rock for their 6 chances in 1,000.

The Celtics look as though they're likely to use all three draft picks available to them this June, according to the Boston Herald.  "I see the draft as being so incredibly important, because in most cases it's the one chance you have to get a special player," said Celtics GM Chris Wallace.  "Everybody knows the NBA is a game of whose main guys are the best,"  Boston is likely to pick 10, 11 and 21.  Also, the C's confirmed the hiring of Dick Harter as an assistant coach.

The Celtics have added Dick Harter to round out their coaching staff.  Harter is expected to focus on improving the team's defense.  The Celtics also are looking at the players available for the upcoming draft.  One issue is whether to take Denver's pick (#11), or wait another year or two before taking it.

Like all teams out of the playoffs, Boston is working out its strategy for the summer.  Perhaps first and foremost, they must decide by June 12 whether to exercise Denver's first-round draft pick. The Celts' decision will be far easier after Sunday, which is the deadline for college underclassmen and high school players to officially declare for the draft. At that point, teams will have a much truer sense of this year's draft depth.

C's sign O'Brien as permanent coach, and prepare to re-sign their core players.  Their only additions will be with their three first round draft picks.
