Boston Has Little Leverage On Telfair Trade Talks

Apr 29, 2007 5:42 PM

Prior to Sebastian Telfair's arrest, the Celtics could have dealt the young point guard away in a one-for-one package, but that possibility has supposedly evaporated.

Since the club has said that Telfair has played his final game for the Celtics, executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge is left with little bargaining leverage.

Nuggets, Magic And Wolves Interested In Telfair?

Apr 26, 2007 12:14 PM

Denver, Orlando and Minnesota are already being mentioned as possible new landing spots for Sebastian Telfair.

"I would think that the Celtics will try to get something for him," one Eastern Conference executive said Wednesday. "Once things settle down, I could see them looking to put him in a trade, being a guy who's included in a deal to make the numbers work. But somebody will take a shot on him. He's young and he made a mistake."

Apr 25, 2007 2:21 AM

Charges of aggravated battery against Boston Celtics guard Tony Allen were dismissed Tuesday in a Chicago court.

The development came on the second day of a trial stemming from a fight in August 2005 outside a restaurant near downtown Chicago.

"He was pretty happy about the outcome," Michael Higgins, Allen's agent, said. "I think this has been dragged out for too long. It's been a long time coming."

Celtics Sever Ties With Telfair

Apr 24, 2007 2:19 PM

Just one week Sebastian Telfair was arrested on a gun possession charge, the Boston Celtics are severing ties with the guard after one season.

"I wanted to let you know that we have removed Sebastian's nameplate from his locker in Waltham. The facts and circumstances of his case have not been determined but he does not have a Celtics locker and we do not anticipate that he will," Celtics managing partner Wyc Grousbeck wrote in an e-mail to the Boston Globe on Tuesday.

Telfair's playing time became increasingly limited as Boston's disappointing 2006-2007 season went along.

Telfair's cousin, New York Knicks point guard Stephon Marbury, showed up to support him hours before he was arraigned, the Daily News reported on its Web site.

"The players on the Celtics have been explicitly warned, this year, to obey the team and league gun prohibition as well as state laws. We take this very seriously and will act accordingly once the facts have been determined," Grousbeck said Friday night.

Theo Ratliff will be entering the final season of his contract this summer, making him a valuable commodity.  The team that holds his rights might also benefit from an insurance payout if Ratliff, who played just two games this season because of a back problem that eventually required surgery, is unable to play.

Ratliff believes he will return though.

?Oh, yeah,? Ratliff said. ?Definitely. There?s no doubt about that. I?m sure of that. I?m not ready to quit yet.?

Celtics Clinch East's Worst Record In Loss To Bucks

Apr 14, 2007 5:20 AM

Fifty years to the day after Boston won the first of its NBA-best 16 titles, the Celtics showed just how far they are from winning another one.

Charlie Bell scored 24 points and Dan Gadzuric added a season-high 21 points and 11 rebounds to help the Milwaukee Bucks snap a four-game losing streak with a 104-102 win over the Boston Celtics on Friday night.

Boston clinched the worst record in the Eastern Conference and second worst in the league, giving them the second best chance at potentially drafting Ohio State's Greg Oden or Kevin Durant from Texas.  Memphis has secured the league's worst record, giving them the best chance at choosing first.
