If Leon Powe is able to make it back from a torn left ACL and damaged meniscus, he's looking to play for a title contender.
The unrestricted free agent is interested in playing for the Cavaliers and Magic, with Cleveland reportedly first on his list. The Mavericks and Lakers have also inquired about the forward's services.
The most optimistic scenario for Powe would be a return to the court in February
Rashad McCants tweeted on Thursday morning that he hoped to sign with the Mavericks, but Dallas has no interest in the free agent.
Tim MacMahon of the Dallas Morning News pointed out that it would be tough for McCants to crack a rotation that already includes Josh Howard, Jason Terry, J.J. Barea and Matt Carroll at shooting guard.
Dirk Nowitzki insists that an old feud with new teammate Tim Thomas is a thing of the past.
Thomas infamously blew a kiss to Nowitzki during an on-court incident in the 2006 Western Conference Finals while with the Suns.
"That stuff is long gone," Nowitzki told Marc Stein of ESPN this week. "We were in the bottom [six] in 3-point shooting and we needed to address that. I'm happy he's a Maverick."
The Mavericks, who defeated the Suns in the aforementioned series to advance to the NBA Finals, signed Thomas to a contract this week.
The Dallas Mavericks announced Thursday that they have signed forward/center Drew Gooden.
Gooden (6-10, 230) has seen action in 510 games with 396 starts. He holds career averages of 12.0 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 28.1 minutes per game while shooting .471 from the field and .732 from the foul line. Gooden played the final 19 games of last season with the San Antonio Spurs. He averaged 9.2 points and 4.4 rebounds in just 16.8 minutes per contest.
The Dallas Mavericks announced the signing of free-agent forward Tim Thomas on Tuesday. Terms were not disclosed.
"He is a really good 3-point shooter that can spread the floor for us and will immediately make us a better 3-point shooting team," Mavs owner Mark Cuban said via e-mail. "Plus, he is a far better 1-on-1 post defender than he gets credit for. His defensive points per possession in the post the last couple years has been very good. His length and experience really pay off."
Tim Thomas is scheduled to be in Dallas for a face-to-face meeting on Tuesday.
No deal has been finalized, but the Mavericks are expected to make an offer to the free-agent forward following the meeting.
"We're hoping to complete a deal soon," agent Bob Myers told ESPN.com.
The Mavericks were hoping to get Thomas in the four-team deal that landed them Shawn Marion earlier this month, but the Bulls pulled out.
The Magic became the fourth team in the swap, and Chicago bought out the contract of Thomas when they were unable to trade him.
Drew Gooden announced that he has agreed to a deal with the Dallas Mavericks on his Twitter feed just after midnight Saturday, writing, "Dallas here I come!!!"
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban tweeted in response: "Welcome Drew."
ESPN.com, quoting unidentified sources, reported that Gooden will receive a one-year contract worth a guaranteed $4.5 million with incentives that can exceed $5 million. The Mavericks have money to spend because of the midlevel exception void left by Brandon Bass' departure.
Free-agent forward Drew Gooden has agreed to sign a one-year deal with the Mavericks, according to sources.
Dallas will use some of the money that they got back when Orlando matched their offer sheet for Marcin Gortat.
"Dallas here I come," Gooden wrote on his Twitter feed on Saturday night.
Sources told ESPN that the one-year deal is worth $4.5 million, but includes incentives that could bring the value beyond $5 million.
A family judge ordered on Friday that the jailed ex-girlfriend of Dirk Nowitzki must undergo pregnancy and DNA testing.
The Dallas Morning News reported the ordered tests on Cristal Taylor, who claims Nowitzki is the father of her unborn child.
Medical records show that Taylor is pregnant, but Associate Judge Randall Grubbs wants his own test, according to the paper.
In addition, Grubbs sealed the proceedings; attorneys told the Morning News that they could not comment.
