Agent: Haywood, Carlisle Clash Led To Suspension

Nov 28, 2010 11:30 AM

The agent for Brendan Haywood says that the center was suspended one game by the Mavericks after a heated discussion on Friday morning with coach Rick Carlisle.

Agent Andy Miller said the dispute was a "one-time isolated discussion" that had nothing to do with Haywood's diminished role on the team in recent weeks.

Haywood missed Friday night's game against San Antonio.

One source insisted that the clash was more "strategic" and focus-related based on what was happening during the shootaround and not about playing time.

Cuban Attempted To Recruit LeBron Via Text

Nov 28, 2010 11:24 AM

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban says he desperately tried to recruit LeBron James and his business manager, Maverick Carter, through a series of text messages after the July 1 start of free agency.

"Before he made his decision, what I told [James] ... and what I told Maverick was no team had ever blown up their team to ground zero -- well, I shouldn't use those words -- blown their team up of all of their core, and then added a couple of free agents and won a championship," Cuban said.

"It's always taken someone to come into a good team, make it better, and put it over the top. That's what I told him, and that's what I told Maverick."

Cuban had envisioned James playing with perennial All-Stars Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd and surrounding them with one of the league's deepest supporting casts.

Mavs Suspend Haywood For Misconduct

Nov 27, 2010 11:20 AM

The Mavericks suspended center Brendan Haywood for Friday night's game against the Spurs for a violation of team rules.

Haywood will be eligible to face the Heat on Saturday night.

"I'm not going to expound it any more than that. It's going to remain an internal matter," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said.

"The only thing that I'll say, in two-plus years here one of the things I've grown to respect and admire about [owner] Mark [Cuban] and his franchise is that everyone's treated great, but everyone's held to a high level of accountability, and we expect a lot. We're going to make sure things are right."

Caron Butler Hoping To Return Monday

Nov 13, 2010 4:12 PM

Mavericks forward Caron Butler is hoping to return to the court on Monday night against the Hornets.

Butler has been dealing with back spasms.

"That's the plan," said Butler, who has been using one form of treatment more than any other. "I'll be out there sometime next week."

"[I've been] laying in a hyperbaric chamber," he said. "It's unbelievable. It's like being on an airplane, your ears are popping and you feel the air pressure on your body and it starts loosening up. It helped out tremendously."
