Danuel House Apologized To Rockets Before Exiting Bubble

Sep 25, 2020 1:26 PM

The way Danuel House was effectively banished by the NBA for allegedly bringing an unauthorized guest into his hotel room during the middle of the Western Conference Semifinals "didn't sit well with his teammates or head coach," according to Kelly Iko of The Athletic.

"From what I understand, House apologized to the entire team before exiting the bubble," wrote Iko. "It was a bad decision made on his part, but one that didn’t just affect the team — it might have affected his future."

The Rockets re-signed House on a three-year, $11.1 million deal in 2019.

76ers Could Try To Pair James Harden With Mike D'Antoni

Sep 24, 2020 2:56 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers could pursue James Harden either via trade or in free agency in 2022, according to John Clark of NBC Philadelphia.

The 76ers are pursuing Mike D'Antoni as head coach, who decided not to explore talks with the Houston Rockets on a new contract.

"I’m hearing one of the reasons along with coaching that Sixers have a lot of interest in Mike D’Antoni is feeling with some in organization that he could help lure James Harden to Philly," writes Clark.

Harden signed a four-year extension with the Rockets in 2017.

Tilman Fertitta Confirms Rockets Will Retain Daryl Morey As GM

Sep 15, 2020 2:59 PM

During an appearance on CNBC on Tuesday, Tilman Fertitta confirmed that Daryl Morey is in no danger of being fired.

"Daryl Morey's job is safe," said Fertitta. "I'm sure he's going to pick the right head coach."

The Rockets will be replacing Mike D'Antoni this offseason.

"It begins and end with the general manager," said Fertitta of Houston's coaching search. "That's why you have a basketball operations team. They'll make a recommendation to me. I'm the sign off guys. I wouldn't know how to interview a basketball coach."

Mike D'Antoni Decided To Leave Rockets After Never Hearing From Tilman Fertitta

Sep 15, 2020 11:16 AM

Mike D'Antoni and Daryl Morey met for a late dinner Saturday following the Houston Rockets' Game 5 elimination in the Western Conference semifinals.

Before D'Antoni went to bed that evening, he had spoken with everyone about the teams from players to management, but sources tell Sam Amick and Kelly Iko of The Athletic that he still hadn't heard from Tilman Fertitta.

There was an expectation of a phone call from ownership to discuss the season and a plan to talk about returning.

D'Antoni continued to expect a call from Fertitta the next morning but sources say it never came.

By the time D'Antoni boarded Houston's plan, his mind was made up he wouldn't be seeking another contract with the team. D'Antoni told his agent Warren LeGarie to deliver the message while the plane was in the air.

As the plane made its descent into Houston, D'Antoni told Morey, his staff and players of the decision. Morey was upset but understood and respected the decision made by D'Antoni.

Sep 13, 2020 3:25 PM

Sam Cassell and the Houston Rockets reportedly have "mutual interest" to fill the team's vacant head coaching position, league sources told Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

The news comes on the heels of Mike D'Antoni choosing not to re-sign with the team.

“Sam Cassell should be a head coach, period. He’s got an incredibly high basketball IQ, and I just hope he gets a shot. ... When they talk about paying dues, he’s paid every due that is possible and he’s yet to get a job. So, I’m hoping that happens," said Doc Rivers earlier this week.

The Rockets are also expected to consider Tyronn Lue for the role.
