Trevor Ariza Waits To Confront Salah Mejri Outside Mavs' Locker Room

Dec 28, 2016 11:02 AM

Trevor Ariza waited outside the Dallas Mavericks' locker room for Salah Mejri after the Houston Rockets' 123-107 win.

According to a source, Mejri made a derogatory comment to Ariza about Ariza's wife and children between the third and fourth quarters.

Ariza became so upset that he exchanged words with Mejri, which prompted the referees to give Ariza a technical, his second of the game, leading to an ejection.

Ariza was accompanied by two security guards as he walked toward the Dallas locker room. Patrick Beverley, James Harden and Eric Gordon accompanied Ariza to wait for Mejri. Dallas police officers already outside the locker room as part of their regular detail monitored the situation to make sure it did not escalate.

Deron Williams came out of the locker room to try to calm Ariza down.

Mejri denied saying anything about Ariza's family.

"He was swearing and bulls---," Mejri said. "Ask him. He's out there. Ask him."

Rockets Proposed Supermax Rule Of New CBA

Dec 23, 2016 11:09 AM

The Houston Rockets were the team that initially proposed the NBA's new supermax contract extension rule and pushed for it throughout the process.

Houston already signed James Harden to a four-year extension last summer and will be allowed to extend him under the new rules in 2017. The new deal would begin with the 19-20 season and run through 22-23 and be worth up to $164 million for those four years added to the two years and $58.7 million still left on his deal.

"They love me, man. I love them," Harden said. "I love being here. We're going to win a lot. I'm excited to be here. That's one of the reasons I extended this summer.

"Obviously, this year's been great. I've been happy, probably the happiest I've been since I've been in a Rockets uniform. Everybody else is happy."

Dec 20, 2016 11:49 PM

James Harden and Russell Westbrook will be grandfathered into the NBA's new Collective Bargaining Agreement to sign super-max contracts.

Both Harden and Westbrook signed extensions with the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder, respectively, during the 2016 offseason. Harden signed a four-year, $118 million renegotiation in July. Westbrook signed a three-year, $85.7 million renegotiation.

Westbrook could sign a five-year, $219 million contract extension with the Thunder that would begin in the 2018-19 season. He’ll make $28.5 million in 2017-18.

Harden could sign for an additional four years and $171 million starting in 2019 – on top of the $58.7 million owed to him in the next two years of his current contract.

Rockets Renounce Rights To Donatas Motiejunas

Dec 15, 2016 6:37 PM

The Houston Rockets have renounced their rights to Donatas Motiejunas and he'll become an unrestricted free agent.

Motiejunas and the Rockets hit another snag last weekend following his physical after the two sides were able to agree upon a revised four-year deal.

The initial deal Motiejunas signed with the Brooklyn Nets in restricted free agency worth as much as $37 million over four seasons was discarded after it became a four-year, $31 million deal with the Rockets.

The Rockets could have failed Motiejunas on his physical to keep him a restricted free agent but they instead have given him the opportunity to sign with another team beyond the Nets.

Thunder, Pacers, Rockets Have Had Interest In Rudy Gay

Dec 14, 2016 12:36 PM

Rudy Gay can become a free agent this offseason and has openly suggested he isn't interested in re-signing with the Sacramento Kings.

"The one player who is going to have to move between now and the trade deadline is Rudy Gay," said Wojnarowski. "I don't think the Kings can make the same mistake New Orleans made last year with Ryan Anderson. Ryan Anderson was pretty clear he was not going to re-sign there and they lost him for nothing. Especially for a team so devoid of assets, they couldn't let him walk for nothing.

"Oklahoma City got down to the wire before Cameron Payne's injury (trading for Gay).

There are several teams with interest in trading for Gay.

"There's no question Oklahoma City. Indiana has had interest in him. Houston has had some peripheral interest. I don't think they have the pieces to trade."

Rockets, Donatas Motiejunas Hit Another Snag On Contract

Dec 12, 2016 11:52 AM

The Houston Rockets and Donatas Motiejunas agreed upon a new contract on Friday but that hit a snag on Saturday with his physical.

Daryl Morey told reports the Rockets remain in active discussions with Motiejunas' representatives and the league office.

The Rockets matched Motiejunas' four-year offer sheet with the Brooklyn Nets but that deal was eventually discarded in favor of one that was more team-friendly for Houston in terms of how it can be traded and when it became guaranteed. Motiejunas also received more money in the new deal as certain bonuses he agreed upon with the Nets were excluded when the Rockets matched.

Rockets Sign Donatas Motiejunas To New Four-Year, $35M Deal

Dec 10, 2016 12:48 PM

The Houston Rockets have pulled their matched offer sheet to Donatas Motiejunas and have signed him to a new four-year, $35 million deal. The deal contains an additional $2 million in unlikely bonuses that could make it worth as much as $37 million.

Houston matched the Brooklyn Nets' four-year, $37 million offer sheet signed by Motiejunas that became a four-year, $31 million deal because of lost bonuses.

Motiejunas broke restricted free agency convention by not reporting for his physical this week.

The parameters of the new deal are similar to the one Motiejunas signed with the Nets with only one season fully guaranteed. Motiejunas will receive $8.3 million in guaranteed money this season and the Rockets will own a team option in each July over the next three years.

Another improved aspect of the deal from the Rockets' perspective is Motiejunas can be traded within three months without his consent.
