No Suspension For Dillon Brooks After Game 3 Ejection

Apr 23, 2023 1:07 PM

Memphis Grizzlies wing Dillon Brooks will face no further punishment after being ejected from Game 3. Brooks was ejected after picking up a Flagrant 2 foul for a shot to the groin of Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James.

Brooks had previously stated that he wouldn't respect James until the Lakers star "dropped 40 on him". Brooks later clarified that he did respect James, but that he wasn't afraid of him. He also took the opportunity to call James "old", while suggesting that the NBA's all-time leading scorer isn't the player he once was.

For his part, James said those comments don't bother him. Following Brooks' ejection, James said he was “Just focusing on the game plan. There was a lot of game to be played when that incident happened. So just tried to get up, protect my crown jewels, and move on to the next play.”

LeBron James: I Don't Need To Make Statements

Apr 23, 2023 11:51 AM

Dillon Brooks called LeBron James old after the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 2, which setup a highly anticipated matchup in Game 3.

James and Brooks had brief words before the game, and Brooks was ejected 17 seconds into the second half after the Memphis agitator struck James in the groin while guarding him near midcourt.

"I didn’t make a statement,” James said. “I’ve been doing this too long. I’m not making any statements. We had the opportunity to come home and play well on our home floor, and we did that. No statement was made. We just wanted to play well, and we got a win. I don’t need to make statements."

Lakers To Sign Shaq Harrison, Tristan Thompson; Waive Davon Reed

Apr 9, 2023 11:57 AM

The Los Angeles Lakers are doing some roster shuffling on the final day of the NBA regular season. The Lakers will sign Shaq Harrison and Tristan Thompson. To create the space to add the two players, Los Angeles will waive Davon Reed. The Lakers already had one roster spot open.

Harrison is coming off a five-game stint with the Portland Trail Blazers. He averaged 8.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.2 assists in 24 minutes per game with the Blazers.

Thompson has not played in the NBA this season. He split last season between the Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers and Chicago Bulls. Thompson was previously teammates with LeBron James on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Reed was acquired by the Lakers at the trade deadline. That deal saw Los Angeles send Thomas Bryant to the Denver Nuggets.

Asking Price For Taking On Russell Westbrook Decreased Dramatically From Preseason To Deadline

Apr 6, 2023 11:10 AM

While the Los Angeles Lakers struggled in the first half of the season while keeping Russell Westbrook on their roster, the cost of trading him for players who could help them this season decreased dramatically closer to the trade deadline.

Sources tell Jake Fischer of Yahoo that during the preseason both the Utah Jazz and Indiana Pacers indicated it would take two future first round picks for them to take on Westbrook and his $46.2 million salary.

As the trade deadline approached, the Jazz informed the Lakers they were willing to accept just one first round pick for Westbrook while also including Jarred Vanderbilt.

The Lakers were able to acquire Vanderbilt, D'Angelo Russell and Malik Beasley for Westbrook and a protected future first round pick. Westbrook was eventually bought out and signed with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Anthony Davis Still Has Bone Bruise In Foot, Overuse Increases Risk Of Reinjury

Apr 5, 2023 3:54 PM

Anthony Davis has been on a back-to-back restriction since returning from his foot injury on January 25th. The bone spur fractured off the navicular bone and he's also dealing with the stress reaction.

Davis played in his first back-to-back since the injury in Wednesday's game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers.

"It's out of the coaching staff's hands," said Dave McMenamin on the Hoop Collective Podcast about whether Davis plays in a back-to-back. "It's out of Anthony Davis' hands. As we've been told over and over again, the Lakers' medical staff recognizes there's been a program Anthony Davis has been on since missing 20 straight game with a very complicated right foot issue.

"He had a MRI about a month ago- there's still a bone bruise in that foot. The medical diagnosis is overuse will spike the chance of reinjuring it to the point where the pain level is not something he can play with, which can lead to him missing a chunk of time."
