LeBrno James will have his right foot reassessed in two weeks to determine how much progress he's made in hopes of returning this season.

James is will likely be out more than two weeks as the timeline on his return is expected to extend beyond that checkpoint.

The determination on when James returns could be impacted by where the Los Angeles Lakers are in the standings.

LeBron James is likely to be out indefinitely with a right foot injury.

James suffered the injury in Sunday's win over the Dallas Mavericks, but he stayed in the game.

James will seek multiple opinions on the injury as they evaluate their options.

The Los Angeles Lakers are bracing for James to be out multiple weeks.

"It's been better," James said when asked about his foot afterward. "That's for sure. But I definitely wasn't going to go to the locker room and not finish the game out tonight. Just understood the importance of the game and then with the momentum that we had, I felt like we could still win after being down.

"We'll monitor it the next couple days, see how it feels and go from there."

D'Angelo Russell left the Los Angeles Lakers game against the Golden State Warriors in the first quarter with a sprained ankle.

The Lakers ruled Russell out for the rest of the game.

The injury occurred when Russell stepped on Donte DiVincenzo's foot as Russell went to inbound the ball.

Russell finished his night with two points and three assists in nine minutes. 

LeBron James described the remaining 23 games as the most important stretch of regular season games of his career. The Los Angeles Lakers are battling for a playoff spot.

"It's 23 of the most important games of my career, for a regular season," James said Sunday before playing in a record-tying 19th All-Star Game. "It's the type of mindset that I have, and I hope the guys will have, coming back off the break."

James has missed 14 games so far this season, including a recent three-game stretch because of left foot and ankle plain, but he plans on being on the court as much as possible for the playoff pursuit.

"I hope I can figure out a way to just make sure that I'm available on the floor every single night for these 23 games to give us a chance," James said, speaking to reporters for the first time all weekend after being excused Saturday for personal reasons. "Give our group a chance to be able to compete every night and give ourselves a chance to win every night so we can give ourselves a chance to get into the postseason."

The future of Anthony Davis with the Los Angeles Lakers has come into question in recent weeks, largely due to his strange body language when LeBron James broke the scoring record, followed by his comments to the media attempting to explain it.

"While I admit there might be something amiss there, I don't think Anthony Davis wants to not be a Laker," said Brian Windhorst on the Dan Patrick Show. "My understanding is he still is 100 percent bought in on that."

Davis has an Early Termination Option he can exercise in 2024 on the five-year, $190 million extension he signed in 2020.

Davis was also the subject of trade rumors after the 21-22 season, which he publicly addressed.

The Los Angeles Lakers are among the teams interested in signing Kevin Love. Love has previously been linked with the Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat.

"I think the Lakers are definitely kicking the tires there and looking," said Brian Windhorst on the Dan Patrick Show.

The Cavaliers may be unwilling to let Love sign with the Heat if he is bought out, which is something they are currently discussing.

Windhorst says the Lakers may not be a good fit, while the Suns could be limited in the minutes they offer Love. Love has fallen out of Cleveland's rotation, which is what started the buyout talks.

The Los Angeles Lakers didn't take on much guaranteed long-term money at the trade deadline. That gives the Lakers lots of flexibility with how they approach the future of their roster. One player that pertains to most is D'Angelo Russell.

The Lakers and Russell have mutual interest in a contract extension, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. "The Lakers did not trade a first-round pick for Russell to be a rental,' Wojnarowski said.

Russell is eligible to sign a two-year extension with Los Angeles worth up to $67.5 million. It's unlikely the salary will climb quite that high, but adding two years at a fair value is possible. A two-year extension would also align Russell with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, as far as long-term contracts on the Lakers roster. Both James and Davis have player options for the 2024-25 season.

Shortly after the Dallas Mavericks traded for Kyrie Irving, there was speculation that he could still end up with either the Phoenix Suns or Los Angeles Lakers. Both the Suns and Lakers tried to trade for Irving before he was moved to the Mavericks. The Suns went on to trade for Kevin Durant, while the Lakers traded for a package that included D'Angelo Russell. The Lakers could conceivably create cap space to sign Irving, or possibly incentivize the Mavericks to participate in a sign-and-trade.

Either way, the Mavericks acquired Irving to keep him and they have the capacity to offer him the most money.

"I think it's more likely than not Kyrie Irving stays in Dallas," said Adrian Wojnarowski on ESPN. "Just because of what they invested in him. And his chance to get the kind of contract he wants... I think given of what they gave up and Dallas' track record of being willing to pay players who want to be there. I think it's more likely than not Kyrie Irving is in Dallas. Of course it can all change.

"I do think [the Lakers] traded for Russell with the idea they'll go forward with him on a new deal."

LeBron James will miss Monday's game for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Portland Trail Blazers with left ankle soreness.

This will be the third straight game James has missed since breaking the NBA's all-time scoring record last Tuesday.

The injury is widely believed to be more in the foot than the ankle.
