Durant Looks Like Lock For Team USA

May 23, 2010 6:44 PM

Kevin Durant looks like a lock to make Team USA's final roster.

LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Dwight Howard still haven't committed to play for Team USA at the World Championships in Turkey this summer, which is one of the reasons Durant is considered a shoe-in.

Westbrook Wants To Work On Changing Pace

May 17, 2010 7:42 AM

Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook plans to work on changing pace more often this summer.

"This year, I did a good job of doing that every once in a while," Westbrook said. "I have to be consistent changing my pace, when to go fast, when to go slow. Continue to learn, watch film of myself and see what I could have done to help my team...

"I just want to come back and be a better player and better person, help this team get further (in the playoffs). For me, I won't work on one single individual thing. I'll do a variety of different things. I just want to improve everything."

During Oklahoma City's first round series against Los Angeles, Westbrook often became the team's No. 1 scoring option when Kevin Durant was covered.

However, he doesn't see himself being the team's top scoring option in those situations.

"Not at all," Westbrook said. "First and foremost, I'm a point guard. Kevin is an unbelievable scorer, one of the best scorers in this game. You have to give guys with great talent an opportunity (to score)."

Thunder Could Allow Green To Become Restricted

May 10, 2010 4:24 PM

Coming off an impressive showing against the Lakers in the postseason, the Thunder have quite a few decisions to make this summer.

Kevin Durant and Jeff Green are eligible for extensions to their rookie-scale contracts.

Signing Durant to the maximum deal allowed is a no-brainer, but the Oklahoman writes that the Thunder might be better served to allow Green to become a restricted free agent next summer.

"And it's possible, perhaps even probable, we will see that exact scenario play out," wrote Darnell Mayberry.

Mayberry writes that the move is the right one for Oklahoma City general manager Sam Presti because they "would retain the right to match any offer sheet Green receives from another team next summer. And the Thunder would allow the market to establish Green's value, rather than potentially overpaying or even low-balling one of its core players."

Thunder Ownership Ready For Payroll To Increase

May 4, 2010 1:50 AM

Sam Presti was asked if Thunder ownership will give him the opportunity to add payroll to the team.

"We understand through a natural progression that our payroll is going to rise," said Presti. "That?s part of the reason we?ve taken a disciplined approach to this point. This business is about some long-range planning that has to go into this. It can?t always be about a short-term fix without cause for concern moving forward. As we get to those points, we?ve tried to create flexibility so we can continue to add to our team. We?re not there, yet. But I know our ownership group is committed to winning and excited by the fact we have room to grow."

Durant Averaged 10.3 FTAs In Playoffs

May 1, 2010 12:29 AM

Kevin Durant undoubtedly struggled in his shooting from the floor during Oklahoma City's first round series against the Lakers, going 7-24, 12-26, 8-24, 6-12, 5-14 and 5-23 in the six games. Those shooting numbers gave Durant a 35.0% field goal percentage (38.6 eFG%) for the series.

But Durant's ability to draw fouls and get to the line was invaluable. He 9-11, 5-6, 12-13, 9-11, 5-6 and 14-15 in the six games.
