Duncan Will Rest In Back-To-Backs

Feb 28, 2010 10:28 AM

The Spurs will play seven more back-to-backs before the season is over and forward Tim Duncan will get some rest in those situations.

"Timmy will get some rest during back-to-back situations," coach Gregg Popovich said. "That's the priority, no matter what our record might be."

San Antonio is in seventh place in the Western Conference.

"So far, that delayed month of training, starting a month later, and his diligence working on his knee all year has proven to help him out at this point, and we hope it continues," Popovich said.

Robertson's Lawyer Denies Sex Allegations

Feb 28, 2010 10:24 AM

A lawyer for former NBA guard Alvin Robertson said Saturday his client has been wrongly linked to a sex-trafficking ring.

"He's adamant that he's done nothing wrong," said attorney Jimmy Parks Jr. "He's willing to get back to Bexar County as quick as he can to try to clear himself of these charges."

Parks Jr. said that Robertson has been wrongly linked because of his prominence on and off the basketball court.

Robertson was arrested in Bentonville, Ark., where he was to attend a basketball shooting clinic over the weekend.

Jefferson Inspired By Ginobili's Bench Role

Feb 26, 2010 5:57 AM

The Spurs have used 19 different starting lineups this season and recently forward Richard Jefferson has been coming off the bench.

Jefferson is fine with the role because he can look no further than to teammate Manu Ginobili for inspiration.

"No, it's not hard at all to accept," Jefferson said of a demotion to the bench. "I just want to win. You look at a guy like Manu, who's been All-NBA, one of the best players in this league, and he comes off the bench.

"Starting isn't a pride thing. I didn't start (against Oklahoma City on Wednesday), but I was in the game at the very end. That's been the situation most of these games I haven't started since the All-Star break. As long as I earn those minutes to be in at the end of the game, I'm happy."

Parker Frustrated With Persistent Injuries

Feb 24, 2010 5:18 PM

Spurs point guard Tony Parker has battled through foot, ankle, knee and hip injuries this season.

An MRI on Parker's left hip Monday revealed only a mild muscle strain and he's expected to suit up against the Thunder on Wednesday.

The veteran scored 28 points against the Pacers last week, but was slowed greatly against the 76ers on Friday.

"I never like to say when I'm hurt because you feel like a baby, saying an excuse, but sometimes you just have to say it," Parker said. "I tried to play through it in Philadelphia. Obviously, it didn't work out too well."

He acknowledged that injuries have taken a toll this season.

"It's just one more thing this year, after my plantar fasciitis and my knee and my ankle. It's just one of those years. I'm just going to try to stay positive, keep working on my body, do my treatments and stretching and all that stuff and try to not have nothing else the rest of the year."

Parker To Undergo Tests On Hip

Feb 22, 2010 3:29 PM

Spurs point guard Tony Parker missed the team's overtime loss to the Pistons on Sunday with a sore left hip.

Parker is set to undergo tests on his hip Monday afternoon in San Antonio.

"I thought he was going to be OK after the Indiana game," coach Gregg Popovich said. "He scored a thousand points. In the Philly game (Friday), you could see he was hurting."

Parker scored 28 points against the Pacers last week.

He is officially listed as day-to-day, but Popovich said the team has not ruled out sidelining the point guard for a longer period.

"If a guy's not going to play, you hope he's healing and resting," Popovich said. "If he's not healing and resting, he might as well play."

Popovich: Parker Isn't Right Physically

Feb 21, 2010 10:04 AM

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich has acknowledged that point guard Tony Parker isn't right physically.

"He's got some problems," Popovich said following the team's disappointing loss to the 76ers on Friday night.

Parker has been suffering from a sore left hip flexor since a Feb. 8 loss to the Lakers. He had just two points against Philadelphia, his lowest scoring total in more than five years.

Heat Considered Using TPE For Mason

Feb 17, 2010 4:55 PM

The Heat had been interested in acquiring Roger Mason, but ultimately balked at adding salary.

The Spurs were hoping to tempt Miami into absorbing Mason's $3.8 million expiring contract into a $4.3 million trade exception that would have enabled the teams to complete a deal without San Antonio needing to take back another player. A future second-round pick from the Heat would have completed the transaction.

Miami's trade exception, acquiring during last year's Shawn Marion/Jermaine O'Neal trade with Toronto, expired on Monday.
