Nick Nurse Plans To Evaluate 'Where I'm At' After Season

Mar 31, 2023 9:32 PM

Nick Nurse revealed he plans to "take a few weeks to see where I'm at" after what he described as "a difficult season from a number of standpoints."

Nurse has been with the Toronto Raptors for 10 years, first as an assistant coach and then five years as head coach.

"Early on, had some pretty serious injuries with some key guys," Nurse said. "I thought we kind of weathered that for a while ... and then yeah, I think the trade deadline stuff, I don't know if there was a thousand rumors, 999 of them were about us, it seemed like. So that was probably as interesting as it gets."

Nurse, when asked where his head is at, said he is primarily focused on two things.

"First of all, I think when this season gets done, we'll evaluate everything, and even personally, I'm gonna take a few weeks to see where I'm at, you know?" Nurse said. "Like you said, where my head's at. And just see how the relationship with the organization is and everything. It's been 10 years for me now, which is a pretty good run. I don't know, over those 10 years we got to be up there in number of wins with anybody in the league. I don't know even know where that is, but we've had a lot of big seasons.

"And then, right now, my head is to make this as long of a season as possible. This team needs playoff experience. So that is where I'm at right now ... finish out these six, see where we land, see if we can't creep up a spot or two in the standings, and then give them hell in the playoffs, see if we can get in a real series and take it from there."

Fred VanVleet Fined $30,000 For Criticism Of Referees

Mar 9, 2023 9:46 PM

Fred VanVleet has been fined $30,000 for public criticism of the officiating.

VanVleet made his comments to the media following the Raptors’ 108-100 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Mar. 8 at Crypto.com Arena.

After being asked about the calls in the recent games, VanVleet initial said it's on the Raptors then paused before responding, “I don't mind, I’ll take a fine, I don’t really care.”

VanVleet then stayed calm and poised, but didn't hold back with his thoughts.

“I thought Ben Taylor was f-----g terrible tonight,” VanVleet said. “I think that most nights, you know out of the three [referees] there’s one or two that just f--k the game up. It’s been like that a couple of games in a row. Denver was tough, obviously.”

Fred VanVleet Blasts Officiating, Targets Ben Taylor Specifically

Mar 9, 2023 8:28 AM

The Toronto Raptors had a frustrating end to a 1-3 road trip. Toronto lost close games at the Denver Nuggets and LA Clippers, which both featured some questionable officiating during the games. Following the Clippers loss, Raptors guard Fred VanVleet blasted the referees, targeting official Ben Taylor specifically.

VanVleet tried to be measured and fair, but continued by saying, “Most of the refs are trying hard, I like a lot of the refs, they’re trying hard, they’re pretty fair, and communicate well. And then you got the other ones who just want to be d--s and just kind of f--k up the game. And no one’s coming to see that s--t. They come to see the players. And I think we're losing a little bit of the fabric of what the NBA is and was and it's been disappointing this season. You can look it up: Most of my techs this year have been with Ben Taylor officiating. So at a certain point as a player you feel it’s personal and it's never a good place to be.”
