Jordi Fernandez has emerged has an intriguing candidate in the coaching search of the Toronto Raptors.

Fernandez is currently associate coach with the Sacramento Kings under Mike Brown.

Fernandez previously spent six seasons as an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets under Michael Malone.

The Toronto Raptors appear to be at a crossroads with their roster and that is manifesting itself with their continued search for a new head coach. The Raptors appear to be considering whether they should attempt to be competitive immediately by keeping their roster together, or if it would make sense to trade away some of their pieces to rebuild around Scottie Barnes.

Fred VanVleet is an unrestricted free agent, while OG Anunoby has been one of the NBA's most popular trade candidates over the past two transaction cycles as he enters the final season of his contract. 

"So I think you have a fascinating situation happening in Toronto right now," said Brian Windhorst on his podcast. "And the reason it is fascinating is in talking to folks that have been in touch with the Raptors recently, the Raptors don't seem to know which direction they're going to take. Whether or not they are going to focus on re-signing Fred VanVleet, extending Pascal Siakam, potentially making other roster upgrades. Or whether or not they're going to send Fred VanVleet in a sign-and-trade, maybe investigate moving other players be it OG Anunoby or Pascal Siakam."

The Raptors also had a similar dilemma at the trade deadline, but stayed pat with their core while adding Jakob Poeltl.

"I think they're kind of back there," said Windhorst.

"They've been in this holding pattern for a while, basically," replied Tim MacMahon.

"They've interviewed a bunch of different coaches and it's not clear which way they're going to go. They probably have to make a decision about whether or not they're going to keep these guys together and that is going to influence the kind of coach you hire."

The Toronto Raptors have met with Steve Nash to discuss their head coaching vacancy.

Nash had a 94-67 record in two-plus seasons as head coach of the Brooklyn Nets.

The Raptors have had a wide-ranging coaching search as they evaluate their options to replace Nick Nurse.

The Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors each have interest in Monty Williams as head coach, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic. 

Williams was fired by the Phoenix Suns after their second round exit.

Williams has three years and $21 million remaining on his contract with the Suns. Williams will focus on family time for now after being fired.

The Milwaukee Bucks have received permission to interview Adrian Griffin for their head coaching job.

Griffin is currently the top assistant coach with the Toronto Raptors and is also a candidate for their vacancy.

Griffin began his coaching career with the Bucks.

The Bucks also have Charles Lee, Kenny Atkinson, James Borrego and Scott Brooks as known candidates for the position.

The Toronto Raptors have looked into the possibility of JJ Redick for their head coaching vacancy, a source has told Michael Grange of Sportsnet.ca. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that Redick had an actual interview with the Raptors. 

Redick has a fledging career in broadcasting after his retirement in 2021.

Redick has spoken openly about possibly coaching in the future.

Steve Nash, Derek Fisher, Jason Kidd, Mark Jackson, Isiah Thomas and Steve Kerr are among some of the former players who became head coach in the NBA without any prior experience as an assistant coach or as a college head coach. 

The Raptors have been linked with a number of current assistant such as Charles Lee, Sam Cassell, Kenny Atkinson, Jordi Fernandez, Adrian Griffin and David Adelman. Other candidates include Becky Hammon, Jerry Stackhouse and Patrick Mutombo.

The Toronto Raptors are set to interview Denver Nuggets assistant David Adelman this week for their vacant head coach position, sources told Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Adelman has been with the Nuggets for the past six seasons.

The Raptors recently interviewed Charles Lee this past week. 

The Toronto Raptors are a "lock" to re-sign Jakob Poeltl, according to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report.

Poeltl, an unrestricted free agent, could command a salary in the range of $13-$15 million per season.

The Raptors are also unlikely to bring back Gary Trent Jr. next season. 

The Toronto Raptors are not expected to retain Gary Trent Jr. for next season, sources told Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report.

Trent has a player option for next season worth $18.8 million.

Trent could potentially opt into his contract then get traded by the Raptors at a later time. 

Charles Lee interviewed for the head coaching vacancy with the Toronto Raptors on Thursday, sources tell Marc Stein.

Lee is also a finalist for the Detroit Pistons' job.

Lee has been an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks since 2018. The Bucks fired Mike Budenholzer on Thursday.
