Tyus Jones, Malcolm Brogdon, Bruce Brown Jr. Would Each Likely Cost First Round Pick To Acquire

Jan 26, 2024 1:25 PM

If Tyus Jones, Malcolm Brogdon or Bruce Brown Jr. are traded at the deadline, their incumbent teams are seeking "at least a first round pick" back in exchange, sources tell Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.

The price paid by the Miami Heat to the Charlotte Hornets for Terry Rozier, the expiring contract of Kyle lowry plus a protected 2027 first round pick, has helped set the market for the three other available ballhandlers.

Jones and Brogdon were traded in the offseason, while Brown was dealt from the Indiana Pacers to the Toronto Raptors as part of the Pascal Siakam deal.

The Washington Wizards acquired Jones from the Memphis Grizzlies as part of a three-team trade involving Kristaps Porzingis.

Brogdon was acquired by the Portland Trail Blazers from the Boston Celtics as part of the Jrue Holiday deal.

The Toronto Raptors "appear open for business" ahead of the February 8 trade deadline, sources told Josh Lewenberg of TSN.

Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley, and RJ Barrett are the only players on the roster seen as untouchable.

“The main vision is developing a young core, how this organization is going to look in the future and establishing a foundation for the future of this team,” said head coach Darko Rajakovic on Thursday.

Bruce Brown has reportedly drawn interest from several teams, including the Lakers and the Knicks

Bruce Brown 'Loves New York', Admires Tom Thibodeau

Jan 21, 2024 8:11 AM

Bruce Brown was happy to be back in New York for the Toronto Raptors game against the New York Knicks. Brown could see himself playing for the Knicks and Tom Thibodeau at some point. When asked what makes him see that, Brown said he's Thibodeau's type of player.

“I am a dog,” Brown said. “I play extremely hard on both ends of the floor. I can do just about whatever (Thibodeau) needs me to do.”

Brown said he considered signing with the Knicks before he inked a two-year deal with the Indiana Pacers. The 6-foot-5 wing knows he's the kind of player Thibodeau prefers. There are rumors that New York could be targeting Brown again, now that he's been traded to the Raptors.

“I play extremely hard. I would think [I’m] the type of player that he likes," Brown said. “Every time we play Thibs I go up to him and shake his hand, just because of what he’s done. Nothing but respect for Thibs.”

Brown also mentioned how much he came to love New York from his time playing with the Brooklyn Nets.

"I love New York,” Brown said. “I hated New York before I lived here, but as soon as I moved here, I loved it. Anytime you want to do something you can go do it. Great restaurants, great city, I love being back.”

Knicks Have Interest In Bruce Brown

Jan 18, 2024 9:22 AM

The New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors already hooked up on one big trade this season. Now, the Knicks may have interest in doing another deal with the Raptors.

Recently acquired Bruce Brown is someone New York has interest in. The Knicks met with Brown when he was a free agent this past offseason. Now that he's been traded from the Indiana Pacers, New York could look at acquiring Brown from Toronto.

Brown's defense-first mindset would fit the type of player Tom Thibodeau prefers. He'd help replace some of the ballhandling, playmaking and perimeter defense New York gave up when they moved RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley to acquire OG Anunoby.

Pascal Siakam Trade Believed To Be Evidence NBA's Goal Of 'Spurting Talent Around' In New CBA Working

Jan 17, 2024 4:49 PM

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski suggested the NBA's goal of dispersing talent around the league under its new collective bargaining agreement is beginning to work as evidenced by the Indiana Pacers' trade for Pascal Siakam.

The Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Clippers have been amongst the teams interested in trading for Siakam at various points over the past year.

"When the league put in this new salary cap and this second apron and this real limitation on the way big market teams could stockpile star players, you're starting to see how teams like Golden State or L.A., others... it's hard to have three stars in this league right now," said Adrian Wojnarowski. "The league's goal was to start spurting that talent around. That's part of the reason why Pascal Siakam lands with the Indiana Pacers."

Siakam will be a free agent this offseason and is widely expected to re-sign with the Pacers.

Wojnarowski believes the Warriors and Sixers were never seriously contenders to trade for Siakam. The Pacers had leverage in trade talks due to their possibility of having cap space this offseason and could pursue Siakam then as well.

Pacers Acquire Pascal Siakam From Raptors For Bruce Brown, Jordan Nwora, Three First Round Picks

Jan 17, 2024 2:35 PM

The Indiana Pacers have agreed to acquire Pascal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors for Bruce Brown Jr., Jordan Nwora and three first round picks. As part of the trade, the New Orleans Pelicans will send Kira Lewis to the Raptors and a second round pick to the Pacers in a luxury tax move.

The picks will be Indiana's own selection in 2024, along with the worst of the first round picks originating from either the Utah Jazz, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers or Oklahoma City Thunder. The third pick will be Indiana's own selection in 2026.

Siakam will be a free agent in 2024, but the Pacers appear to be trading for him with a realistic hope of re-signing him. Siakam can re-sign for up to $247 million over five years with the Pacers. Siakam is also eligible to sign a two-year, $81.5 million extension until June 30th.

“I’m excited that Pascal is getting a first class opportunity with the Pacers, being paired with Tyrese and Myles and being coached by a great coach in Rick Carlisle. His future their looks bright there,” Siakam’s agent Todd Ramasar told Andscape's Marc J. Spears.

Pacers, Raptors Gain Momentum On Pascal Siakam Trade

Jan 16, 2024 8:42 PM

The Indiana Pacers and Toronto Raptors have gained momentum in their trade talks involving Pascal Siakam, sources tell The Athletic.

The two teams have made several back-and-forth proposals and are along in the process.

The package would be centered around Siakam for Bruce Brown Jr. and three future first round picks.

The Raptors have been engaged with other teams such as the Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks.

Siakam is in the final year of his contract at $38 million. Siakam has some leverage in the situation given his ability to signal a willingness to re-sign in free agency.

Siakam is represented by Todd Ramasar and Jaafar Choufani.
