Celtics Fan Arrested For Apparently Throwing Water Bottle At Kyrie Irving

May 31, 2021 12:03 AM

A Boston Celtics fan was arrested for allegedly throwing a water bottle at Kyrie Irving.

The incident occurred with Irving leaving the court following the Nets 141-126 win over the Celtics.

"You can see that people just feel very entitled out here," said Irving about the incident. "They paid for their tickets -- great, I'm grateful that they're coming in to watch a great performance. But we're not at the theater. We're not throwing tomatoes and other random stuff at the people that are performing."

A TD Garden spokesperson said that the fan was subject to a lifetime ban from the arena.

The incident is among a string of occurrences between fans and players, including a fan dumping popcorn on Russell Westbrook and Trae Young getting spit upon at Madison Square Garden.

Kyrie Irving Says He Hopes 'We Can Keep It Strictly Basketball' For Boston Return

May 26, 2021 1:13 AM

Kyrie Irving discussed the potential reaction he could receive from the TD Garden crowd for Game 3, saying that he hopes it doesn't cross the line.

The Nets, currently up 2-0 in the series, play the Celtics on Friday.

"I am just looking forward to competing with my teammates and hopefully, we can just keep it strictly basketball; there's no belligerence or racism going on -- subtle racism. People yelling s--- from the crowd, but even if it is, it's part of the nature of the game and we're just going to focus on what we can control," said Irving.

When asked if he heard racist comments aimed towards him at TD Garden, Irving responded that he "was not the only one that can attest to this."

The Celtics will be at 25% capacity for Game 3, then be at "near full capacity" for Game 4 on Sunday.

Steve Nash Following Game 1 Win: 'There Was A Little Bit Of Newness In Many Ways'

May 23, 2021 1:35 AM

The Brooklyn Nets beat the Boston Celtics 104-93 in Game 1 despite shooting 1-for-13 from three in the first half.

The Nets trailed the Celtics by six points at halftime before opening the third on a 18-4 run.

"There was a little bit of newness in many ways," said Steve Nash off his team's first half struggles. "We weren't sharp offensively, but we found a way."

Kevin Durant led the game with 32 points, with Kyrie Irving scoring 29. James Harden scored 21 points while adding nine rebounds and eight assists.

Irving credited Durant's aggressiveness for turning the game around in the third.

"[Kevin] came out and was extremely aggressive, [and] got to the free throw line [to] start that third quarter," said Irving. "So I think when one of our leaders on our team sets the precedent, sets the tone, then we follow suit. He got it going. He started attacking the rim and then it started opening up the rest of the floor for us and we made timely shots."

Harden also mentioned getting used to the crowd for the Nets slow first half. The team had over 14,000 fans in attendance.

"In that first half, shots just didn't go in. Maybe I'm speaking for myself, but the crowd kind of just threw me off a little bit. It was pretty loud in there. The vibe was what we've been missing, and it just threw me off a little bit."

James Harden 'Plays Off Counteraction...That's Why He Can Adapt So Quickly'

May 20, 2021 9:49 AM

When James Harden was in college at Arizona State, he would frequently run pickup on campus after games and practices to test out the concepts he learned in practice. The extra work diversified Harden's game and sped up his development.

While Harden left Arizona State for the NBA in 2009, he has returned to Phoenix in recent offseasons and will incorporate current players into his workouts to try new moves on.

Harden began doing agility and football-oriented drills last year in Houston.

“He plays off counteraction,”  said Antwi Atuahene, Harden’s teammate at ASU and close friend. “So he knows of everything that’s going on. That’s why he can adapt so quickly. He doesn’t force anything. He makes sure everything is in a flow. It’s all about adaptability with James. That’s the thing I think he adds over a lot of people. He knows what he brings to the table and makes everyone else adapt to him.”

Harden has been praised for how he has adapted his game since joining the Brooklyn Nets in January. The Nets are 28-7 in the regular season when Harden played and just 12-11 in games he didn't.

Harden's knowledge of the league’s personnel also helped influence how Houston built its roster. In 2016, Harden knew the Rockets would be better served with Clint Capela at center instead of Dwight Howard. Harden similarly knew Gerald Green would thrive in Houston despite just playing pickup with him.

James Harden 'All About Winning' Not Stats

May 20, 2021 12:46 AM

James Harden enters his first playoffs with the Brooklyn Nets focused on winning and not on stats. Harden is averaging 24.6 points per game this season for Brooklyn.

"I thought winning was all that matters?" he said with a laugh on Wednesday. "When I was doing the stats and putting up the numbers, it wasn't good enough. So, at some point we've gotta figure out what we're talking about. But it's all about winning."

The Nets will play the Boston Celtics in the first round.

Steve Nash Says Joe Harris 'May Not Practice The Whole Week' Due To Gluteal Strain

May 17, 2021 12:06 AM

Joe Harris missed the final game of the Brooklyn Nets regular season due to a gluteal strain.

Steve Nash said he plans to give Harris rest before the playoffs next week.

"There's a case where he may not practice the whole week, but that's OK. He's played a lot of minutes this year, and we want him to heal up as best he possibly can and kind of not have to chase this thing through the playoffs and have it linger.

"I'd rather he resolves it than practice this week," said Nash.

The Nets go into the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the East.

Kevin Durant Says Nets Can 'Adjust And Adapt As Time Goes On' Following Win

May 15, 2021 11:50 PM

James Harden, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving all started together for the first time since Feb. 13 in the Brooklyn Nets' 105-91 win over the Chicago Bulls.

Irving lead the scoring with 22 points, while Durant added 12 points and nine rebounds, with Harden finishing with five points and seven assists.

"We've all been playing the game for a while, so I feel like we can adjust and adapt as time goes on. Injuries kept us away from playing with each other, but mentally, we were always locked in and trying to find different ways to play. Our voices were loud on the bench when we were injured. Guys always talking in the film room.

"Guys are just actually playing minutes now. But we always been in constant communication with each other and trying to figure out the best way to play," said Durant after the game.

Currently the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, the Nets would clinch the seed with a Bucks loss or a Nets win on Sunday.

Durant said he wants to play on Sunday regardless to regain his rhythm.

"We want to finish the season off, so I'm sure we're all looking at that game and seeing what happens. Just for rhythm and just to get back on the court again, I want to play."

Brooklyn's Big Three To Play First Game Together Since Feb. 13th

May 14, 2021 2:53 PM

The Brooklyn Nets expect their big three of Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving to play just their eighth game together and first since Feb. 13th when they face the Chicago Bulls on Saturday.

"If everything stays the same," Steve Nash said after Friday afternoon's practice, "those three will play tomorrow."

Durant, Harden and Irving have each faced injury issues.

Harden and Irving have played in 19 games together while Durant and Irving have played in 17 games. Harden and Durant have played in just three games together.

"It's been few and far between," Nash said. "I don't necessarily have any expectations other than it gives us an opportunity to jell and play together and feel what it's like to be out there again."
