Steve Smith Back In Miami?

Feb 23, 2005 1:01 PM

With Shaq in the middle, the Miami Heat are still looking for perimeter shooters in which to surround their big man.  It has now been speculated that they will make a push for the veteran sharpshooter Steven Smith, a former Heat player who was dealt in 1994 for Kevin Willis.

The Bobcats have been contacted about Smith by both the Heat and Spurs, with whom Smith won the 2003 NBA title.  Smith has also expressed interest in playing for the team he started, Smith was drafted as the fifth pick in 1991 by the Miami Heat.

"It would make perfect sense," agent Charles Tucker said Tuesday, with his client having spent his first three seasons in South Florida. "The Spurs definitely want him, but he would come to the Heat before he would come to the Spurs."

Smith will come cheap as well, because he is on a veteran?s minimum contract, his salary will only count $745,046 against the cap.

Feb 23, 2005 1:01 AM

Michael Redd returned to the Bucks line-up on Tuesday and wasted no time to prove that he is one of the league's top players, scoring 39 points.

He also commented on his status with his current club.

``I said it all year long and I will say it again -- I am committed to Milwaukee, I want to come back and they have made a commitment to me,'' Redd said. ``They told me they are not going to trade me and I believe that.''

Rumors have centered on Redd being traded to the Golden State Warriors for Dale Davis and Mike Dunleavy.

``I want to retire as a Buck. This is a team that took a chance on me five years ago when they drafted me in the second round and I have flourished, my game has flourished,'' he said. ``I am loyal ... all I know is Milwaukee.''
