Garnett and James Lead RealGM's Player Rankings

Nov 30, 2004 5:05 PM

There was no change in the top 6 places of RealGM.com's Player Rankings.

Kevin Garnett is at the top of the board yet again, with his per game averages of 23.6 points, 14.9 rebounds 6.2 assists and 1.9 blocks.

Lebron James maintained a firm hold on the second spot.

Dwayne Wade and Dirk Nowitzki are creeping up on Tim Duncan and could overtake his standing at anytime.

Rounding out the elite 8 are Suns teammates Shawn Marion and Amare Stoudemire, and Lakers guard Kobe Bryant.

The Seattle SuperSonics, with the best record in the NBA, don't have a single player in the top 23, as Ray Allen is ranked 24th.

Lebron Youngest To Reach 2,000-Point Plateau

Nov 28, 2004 2:31 AM

As the Cleveland Cavaliers continue to win and Lebron James continues to dominate, NBA records are beginning to be broken by the league's young superstar.

James added 26 more points to his season total against the lowly Chicago Bulls as the Cavaliers cruised to a 96-74 victory at home.  James is averaging 32 points a game in six home games this season, making things very difficult for the Bulls.  James wasn't needed to play in the fourth quarter, but that didn't stop him from earlier surpassing 2,000 career points, becoming the youngest player in NBA history to do so.

James, who turns 20 on Dec. 30, reached the milestone faster than the Lakers' Kobe Bryant, who was 20 years, 183 days old when he scored his 2,000th point.

"It's a great feeling," James said. "I didn't even know ? it came so quick. I don't notice things like that, I just notice I'm playing better."

The Cavaliers are 9-1 in their last 10 games after starting the season 0-3.

"We worked as a team, the unselfishness was just great," James said. "We got everyone into the game and came out with a victory."

James' scoring average of 26.6 is second to Bryant's league-leading average of 29.0 this season.

Lebron Scores Career-High 43 in Victory Over Detroit

Nov 24, 2004 10:16 PM

Lebron James scored a caeer-high 43 points in a 92-76 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

James was 15 of 22 from the floor and 11 of 12 from the free throw line, in 38 minutes of play.

Rip Hamilton led Detroit with 28 points.  The Pistons were without suspended center Ben Wallace and coach Larry Brown, who didn't travel with the team due to problems with his hip.

The Pistons are sorely missing their defensive leader Ben Wallace, losing for the second consecutive night.  Antonio McDyess picked up some of the slack, grabbing an amazing 14 rebounds in just 30 minutes of play.

Lebron James was the story though in this game.  He is exceeding all expectations so far this year, as he has become one of the league's most productive players.

Cavs Guard Dajaun Wagner Should Return on Thursday

Nov 16, 2004 6:11 PM

The Cavaliers appear to be getting closer to activating shooting guard Dajaun Wagner from the injured list, but didn't do so before Monday's victory over the Golden State Warriors.

Wagner now has missed five preseason and seven regular-season games with a sprained right ankle. He has been going full speed at practice for more than a week and the team is considering playing him Thursday in Charlotte.

James was the Player of the Week.  In that week he averaged 29 points, 9.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 3.3 steals and 2.3 blocks last week while leading the Cavaliers to three straight wins.

Robinson Hopes to Join Silas in Cleveland

Nov 7, 2004 3:36 PM

Former Chicago Bulls forward Eddie Robinson and his representatives were hoping the Cavaliers would show some interest in signing him after he was bought out of his contract last week.

Robinson was an undrafted free agent when Cavaliers coach Paul Silas got ahold of him five seasons ago with the Charlotte Hornets and molded him into a highly effective role player who earned a $32 million deal in Chicago. He was hoping Silas' leadership would help him restore his reputation after the Bulls basically declared him a lost cause midway through last season.

Silas still likes him as a player, but advised him not to take the Bulls' buyout offer of $10.6 million because it would cost him nearly $4 million and he was sure to be traded if he allowed enough time. Other than that, Silas couldn't help him. At this juncture, team owner Gordon Gund will not approve another salary for a 15th player.

Will Z Sit Still With Cavs?

Nov 2, 2004 5:19 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers believe that loyalty will win out in their battle to keep big man Zydrunas Ilgauskas, and while the team thought the same thing of Utah forward Carlos Boozer they also say the situation between the two are completely different.

"Gordon and Jim have been great to me," Ilgauskas said Monday. "I gave them a lot of headaches with my feet. They were always supportive and that's why I'm not too worried."

And Jim Paxson will second it.

"Gordon looks at Z as somebody who could've taken all that money, retired and never played again like some players have done," said the Cavs GM. "But Z didn't do that."

There will undoubtedly be a market for Ilgauskas this offseason, but it is believed that regardless of where he ends up he'll be taking a pay cut from the $15 million he'll earn this season.

"Three years ago if somebody told me I'd get a chance to talk about a new contract I'd tell them they were nuts," he said. "I'm not screaming because I came from so low, a point where I almost quit basketball."

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer Ilgauskas should command $11 to $12 million a year, and as long as the Cavaliers don't get greedy asking for a home-town discount, something should get done.
